LIMB Demonstration Project Extension

Description: The basic goal of the Limestone Injection Multistage Burner (LIMB) demonstration is to extend LIMB technology development to a full- scale application on a representative wall-fired utility boiler. Regional transport model of atmospheric sulfates

Description: A regional transport model of atmospheric sulfates was developed. This quasi-Lagrangian three-dimensional grid numerical model uses a detailed SO/sub 2/ emission inventory of major anthropogenic sources in the eastern U.S. region and observed meteorological data during an episode as inputs. The performance of the displacement steam generator, the status of the sulfur dioxide scrubbing system, well workovers and the results of drilling four thermal observation wells are examined. Air quality impacts due to construction of LWR waste management facilities

Description: Air quality impacts of construction activities and induced housing growth as a result of construction activities were evaluated for four possible facilities in the LWR fuel cycle: a fuel reprocessing facility, fuel storage facility, fuel fabrication plant, and a nuclear power plant. Since the fuel reprocessing facility would require the largest labor force, the impacts of construction of that facility were evaluated in detail.

Test results from the GA technologies engineering-scale off-gas treatment system

Description: One method for reducing the volume of HTGR fuel prior to reprocessing or spent fuel storage is to crush and burn the graphite fuel elements. The burner off-gas (BOG) contains radioactive components, principally H-3, C-14, Kr-85, I-129, and Rn-220, as well as chemical forms such as CO/sub 2/, CO, O/sub 2/, and SO/sub 2/. Description: The authors have conclusively demonstrated that plasma chemistry alone is sufficient to convert SO{sub 2} to H{sub 2}SO{sub 4}, the plasma being produced by a dielectric-barrier discharge. Pilot-scale testing of a new sorbent for combined SO{sub 2}/NO{sub x} removal. Final report

Description: A new regenerable sorbent concept for SO{sub 2} and NOx removal was pilot-tested at Ohio Edison`s Edgewater generating station at a 1.5 to 2-MW(e) level.
