MAP3S precipitation chemistry network. Third periodic summary report, July 1978-December 1979

Description: The MAP3S Precipitation Chemistry Network consists of eight collection sites in the northeastern United States. Precipitation event samples are collected by cooperating site operators, using specially developed sampling equipment. In this, the third periodic summary report, are listed field and concentration data for the period July 1, 1978 to December 31, 1979. Over three years' samples have been collected at most of the sites, which went into operation between September 1976 and October 1978.… more

Microdosimetric results obtained by proportional counter and ionization chamber methods: a comparison

Description: Energy deposition in one micron diameter volumes at distances of one and two microns from the ion's path has been estimated based on previously reported radial dose measurements made using a mesh wall ionization chamber. In these estimations it was assumed that radial dose varied inversely as the square of the radial distance. Ionization chamber measurements were reported for heavy ions (atomic number 1 to 53) having specific energies from 0.25 to 2.5 MeV per atomic mass unit (MeV/amu) and from… more

Dielectronic recombination, appearance potential spectroscopy and the Auger effect. [Cross sections]

Description: Expressions are obtained for the dielectronic recombination cross-section for six general cases, involving both inner and partially filled outer shells. The expressions are obtained in sufficient generality that they are suitable for intermediate coupling calculations. That is, the expressions obtained can be used to compare the theory with spectroscopic measurements. The appropriate expression for the (3d)/sup 10/(4f)/sup 0/ + e ..-->.. (3d)/sup 9/(4f)/sup 2/ ..-->.. (3d)/sup 10/(4f) + h..nu..… more

Sputtered-ion source for the Lintott ion accelerator

Description: A sputtered ion source was developed for use with the commercial Lintott ion accelerator. This source is readily interchanged with the existing commercial sources, and it requires no modifications to the Lintott accelerator. Sample currents in excess of 15 microamps were produced for Al, Fe, Cu, and the refractory metal Ta. Design considerations and operating characteristics are discussed.

First PGAA and NAA experimental results from a compact high intensity D-D neutron generator

Description: Various types of neutron generator systems have been designed and tested at the Plasma and Ion Source Technology Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. These generators are based on a D-D fusion reaction. These high power D-D neutron generators can provide neutron fluxes in excess of the current state of the art D-T neutron generators, without the use of pre-loaded targets or radioactive tritium gas. Safe and reliable long-life operations are the typical features of these D-D generator… more
