AdS/QCD, Light-Front Holography, and Sublimated Gluons

Description: The gauge/gravity duality leads to a simple analytical and phenomenologically compelling nonperturbative approximation to the full light-front QCD Hamiltonian - 'Light-Front Holography', which provides a Lorentz-invariant first-approximation to QCD, and successfully describes the spectroscopy of light-quark meson and baryons, their elastic and transition form factors, and other hadronic properties. The bound-state Schroedinger and Dirac equations of the soft-wall AdS/QCD model predict linear Re… more

New Perspectives for QCD Physics at the LHC

Description: I review a number of topics where conventional wisdom relevant to hadron physics at the LHC has been challenged. For example, the initial-state and final-state interactions of the quarks and gluons entering perturbative QCD hard-scattering subprocesses lead to the breakdown of traditional concepts of factorization and universality for transverse-momentum-dependent observables at leading twist. These soft-gluon rescattering effect produce single-spin asymmetries, the breakdown of the Lam-Tung re… more

Pressure Broadening of Single Vibrational-Rotational Transitions of Acetylene AT v = 5

Description: To understand the mechanism of pressure broadening one must have accurate values of the pressure broadening coefficients as a function of vibrational quantum number. Unfortunately, such data for polyatomic molecules are scarce. The coefficient for self-broadening of methane has been found to be the same for the R(0) and R(1) lines of the 2{nu}{sub 3} and 3{nu}{sub 3} bands and for an unidentified line of the 5{nu}{sub 1} + {nu}{sub 3} band at 6190 {angstrom} (1). Measurements have also been per… more

Light-Front Holography, Light-Front Wavefunctions, and Novel QCD Phenomena

Description: Light-Front Holography is one of the most remarkable features of the AdS/CFT correspondence. In spite of its present limitations it provides important physical insights into the nonperturbative regime of QCD and its transition to the perturbative domain. This novel framework allows hadronic amplitudes in a higher dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS) space to be mapped to frame-independent light-front wavefunctions of hadrons in physical space-time. The model leads to an effective confining light-fr… more

Neutron diffraction dissociation and coulomb dissociation from various nuclei

Description: We propose to use the 1.75 mr neutral beam in the Meson Lab to study the reaction n + A {yields} N* + A (p + {pi}{sup -}) for targets with as large a range in atomic weight as possible (e.g. hydrogen through lead) and incident neutron energies from approximately 80 to 200 GeV. The aim is to study (1) the cross section vs. energy and mass for (p{pi}{sup -}) masses from 1.08 to approximately 4.7 GeV, (2) the A dependence of the cross section from which information on N* total cross sections in nu… more

Inelastic Strong Interactions at High Energies. Annual Progress Report, June 1, 1977--May 31, 1978. [Summaries of Research Activities at the University of Cincinnati]

Description: Certain classical solutions of the field equations, hereafter sectons, were shown to dominate inclusive and semi-inclusive cross sections which are proportional to the absolute square of the Fourier transform of these solutions in zeroth order of a model independent approximation scheme. Higher order approximations are obtained by the loop expansion method, or by a perturbation expansion around the classical solutions. Sectons were shown to be associated with nonvanishing values of two conserve… more
