Autoradiographic studies of {sup 65}Zn adsorption by periphyton

Description: This reference contains information which details experiments done at the Hanford Reservation on communities of periphyton. These autoradiographic experiments examined the uptake of radioisotopes and diffusion of radioisotopes in the communities. Arguments were presented discussing the presentation of the results on an areal or gravimetric basis.

The case for National Environmental Laboratories

Description: We suggest the establishment of several large generalized National Environmental Laboratories (NELs), each containing interacting groups of natural and social scientists, engineers, and information specialists. The field of action is the whole environment, both urban and rural, both present and future. By their organization and outlook, NELs would take a different cut across the fabric of environmental problems than has been possible hitherto. However, we must realize that NELs will not per se … more

WASTE BURIAL GROUND DATA PACIFIC NORTHWEST LABORATORY SITES

Description: Information pertinent to solid waste burial sites under the control of Battelle-Northwest is provided. In particular, data are tabulated for given sites providing the acreage of the given burial sites, dates of activation and deactivation or continued active status, buried waste volume, waste type according to what radiations are emitted, grams of beta and gamma emitters and plutonium buried, how the plutonium is contained, and term of storage (i.e., long term). A map of the Hanford area is pro… more

The Design and Fabrication of Sodium-Bonded (U, Pu)C Fuel Pins for Testing in Ebr-II

Description: The primary objectives of the experimental irradiation program described in this report are to make a preliminary evaluation of the operational problems outlined above and to provide quantitative data to guide further fuel pin and core design studies. The tests form part of the national program to study carbide fuel technology.

Technical bases: FFTF fuel/cladding damage criteria

Description: Specification of fuel damage criteria is important in evaluating and verifying the adequacy of safety margins for the FFTF. These margins are provided to meet the established safety objectives for the facility. The purpose of this report is to review the parameter limits specified as preliminary design data in the FFTF design safety criteria, and to identify the bases for each of these limit values. These bases provide a logical framework for discussion of the uncertainties involved as well as … more

Radon Progeny Inhalation Study as Applicable to Uranium Mining Operations. Fifth Annual Progress Report Covering the Calendar Year 1969

Description: The main efforts of the past year have been directed towards investigation of the behavior of the radioactive aerosols in actual in mining operations. Activities can be categorized as follows: Preparation of equipment for taking data in uranium mines; development of background of personnel to carry out intended experiments; research data from United Nuclear Homestake Partners Section 25 mine in the Ambrosia Lake area near Grants, New Mexico; updating of computer programs for data analysis in or… more
