Low-pressure ion source

Description: A low pressure ion source for a neutron source comprises a filament cathode and an anode ring. Approximately 150V is applied between the cathode and the anode. Other electrodes, including a heat shield, a reflector and an aperture plate with a focus electrode, are placed at intermediate potentials. Measurements of the emittance and current density profile of the beam produced by the ATA injector

Description: Measurements of the normalized emittance of the beam produced by the Advanced Test Accelerator (ATA) injector yielded values near 0.4 Radian-Centimeters at currents up to 10 kAmps. The instrument was also used to obtain beam-current-density profiles in two dimensions at the entrance mask of the instrument.

Resistive Wall Heating Due to Image Current on the Beam Chamber for a Superconducting Undulator.

Description: The image-current heating on the resistive beam chamber of a superconducting undulator (SCU) was calculated based on the normal and anomalous skin effects. Using the bulk resistivity of copper for the beam chamber, the heat loads were calculated for the residual resistivity ratios (RRRs) of unity at room temperature to 100 K at a cryogenic temperature as the reference. Correlation of Beam Parameters to Decelerating Gradient in the E-167 Plasma Wakefield Acceleration Experiment

Description: Recent experiments at SLAC have shown that high gradient acceleration of electrons is achievable in meter scale plasmas [1,2]. Results from these experiments show that the wakefield is sensitive to parameters in the electron beam which drives it. Description: We have operated a vacuum arc ion source in such a way as to form beams of purely gaseous ions. Simulation and measurement of the electrostatic beam kicker in the low-energy undulator test line.

Description: An electrostatic kicker has been constructed for use in the Low-Energy Undulator Test Line (LEUTL) at the Advanced Photon Source (APS). The function of the kicker is to limit the amount of beam current to be accelerated by the APS linac. Two electrodes within the kicker create an electric field that adjusts the trajectory of the beam. Electron Beam/Converter Target Interactions in Radiographic Accelerators

Description: Linear induction accelerators used in X-ray radiography have single-pulse parameters of the order 20 MeV of electron beam energy, 2 kA of beam current, pulse lengths of 50-100 ns, and spot sizes of 1-2 mm. In Depth Diagnostics for RF System Operation in the PEP-II B Factory

Description: The PEP-II RF systems incorporate numerous feedback loops in the low-level processing for impedance control and operating point regulation. ATA gas propagation - 1 foot tank experiment

Description: The first gas propagation experiment on ATA is planned to be conducted in a 1-foot diameter tank of up to 10 m length.
