Documenting Times of Difficulty and Crisis: Case Study of Leveraging an App to Gather University Community Memories

Description: Presentation examining the deployment of The Keeper App, developed at the University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries, to help students document their daily lives as members of the UNT campus community. Deployed one year before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, the Keeper App soon became a means for students and other members of the UNT community to share their experiences from isolation during the time of crisis.

Temporal complexity measure of reaction time series: Operational versus event time

Description: Article describes how detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) is a well-established method to evaluate scaling indices of time series, which categorize the dynamics of complex systems. The authors propose treating each reaction time as a duration time that changes the representation from operational (trial number) time n to event (temporal) time t, or X(t).

Light-Controlled Cell–Cell Assembly Using Photocaged Oligonucleotides

Description: Article asserts that while techniques that allow one to control the arrangement of cells and direct contact between different cell types have been developed that expand upon simple co-culture methods, specific control over heterojunctions that form between cells is not easily accomplished with current methods, such as 3D cell-printing. In this article, DNA-mediated cell interactions are combined with cell-compatible photolithographic approaches to control cell assembly.

These Tunes Ain't Straight In Line: Grateful Dead Shows and Problems with Music Cataloging Outside of the Western Art Paradigm

Description: Presentation provides an overview of the structure upon which modern library resource description is based, and we will highlight the difficulties of imposing this description standard on music for which it was not optimized, using examples from the Grateful Dead repertoire. It was presented at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association's 44th Annual Conference held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Spinning threads from silkworm cocoons

Description: Joya Medok Doley demonstrates the process of extracting silk threads from a silkworm cocoon bundle called takuri kénam. The silkworms are fed green leaves and kept in a dark room to mature. Once they have formed cocoons, the cocoons are grouped and rolled in a bamboo roller called takpín. From the takpín, silk threads are extracted into a second roller which is thinner, called poːpi.

Dominant Role of Hole Transport Pathway in Achieving Record High Photoconductivity in Two-Dimensional Metal-Organic Frameworks

Description: Article describes how metal-organic frameworks with mobile charges have attracted significant attention due to their potential application in photoelectric devices, chemical resistance sensors, and catalysis. The authors report the mechanisms of photoinduced charge transport and electron dynamics in the conductive 2D M−HHTP MOFs and their correlation with photoconductivity using the combination of time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy, optical transient absorption spectroscopy, X-ray transient a… more
