BRAZING OF CERAMICS. Progress Report

Description: Brazing alloys such as 48 Ti-48 Zr-4 Be (wt%) and 49 Ti-49 Cu-2 Be (wt%) have been found to readily flow on oxide and graphite ceramics. Two demonstrati on fuel element assemblies were fabricated to illustrate the usefulness of these procedures for nuclear applications. OXIDATION OF GRAPHITE UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURE REACTOR CONDITIONS

Description: A kinetic study was conducted to provide information on oxidation of reactor graphites in the temperature range of 450 to 675 deg C and on the effects of reactor environment on oxidation rates. Analysis of erosion and transport of carbon impurity in the TFTR inner bumper limiter region

Description: Carbon sputtering and transport on the TFTR inner graphite bumper limiter is investigated with the impurity transport code REDEP. Analysis is carried out for a series of ohmic discharges in TFTR. Predictions for Z{sub eff} in the core plasma agree well with in-situ experimental measurements. Description: The behavior of 0.125-in. spectroscopic graphite rods is shown to be variable beyond the variation of measurement. Statistical measures are given for the variability before and with irradiation. The linear regression of the reciprocal per cent change in resistance against the reciprocal exposure was determined from 25 to 90% change of electrical resistance. An Evaluation of Reactor Concepts for Use as Separate Steam Superheaters

Description: Various reactor concepts were compared for use as a separate superheater which could be added on to an advanced 300-Mwe reactor producing saturated steam. Fossil steam plant superheat temperatures were used as a criterion for selecting nuclear superheat temperatures.
