Research on human genetics in Iceland. Progress report

Description: Records of the Icelandic Population are being used to investigate the possible inheritance of disabilities and diseases as well as other characters and the effect of environment on man. The progress report of research covers the period 1977 to 1980. The investigation was begun in 1965 by the Genetical Committee of the University of Iceland and the materials used are demographic records from the year 1840 to present and various medical information. The records are being computerized and linked t… more

Environmental reactions and their effects on mechanical behavior of metallic materials. Technical progress report, February 1, 1980-January 31, 1981

Description: Results are described in five project areas: (1) implantation softening of niobium; (2) the crack path in hydrogen embrittlement of 4340 steel; (3) hydrogen embrittlement and stress corrosion cracking (report of a conference); (4) solution hardening and softening of niobium by interstitial solutes; (5) solution hardening and softening in oxide-coated niobium and niobium alloys.

Vacuum breaks of the doubler magnet system

Description: The energy doubler system contains two vacuum systems; the cold beam tube vacuum and the insulating vacuum system. These two systems are independent of each other. Both have connections to the outside world through pumpouts. This report attempts to make an estimate of the effect of a massive failure (large rupture of a connection to the outside world) upon the magnets and the contained helium in the magnet system. It is assumed that the event takes place with magnets full of helium, at steady s… more

Large area silicon sheet by EFG. Second quarterly report, April 1, 1980-June 30, 1980

Description: In Machines 17 and JPL No. 1, experiments are being continued to better understand the limitations on growth speeds over 4 cm/minute, imposed by the details of the present cartridge design. Also, work is progressing on the uniform introduction of oxygen into high-speed growth systems and the resulting 10 cm wide ribbon. In the multiple furnace (3A), further progress in understanding the obstacles preventing the technical features demonstration has been made; this is reported in detail. In the c… more

Thermal stability of ferritic alloys for fossil fuel processing systems

Description: Experimental work within the period was concentrated on the application of refined electrical resistance measurements and analytical techniques to quantify the thermal instability of ternary Fe-Cr-Al alloys as a function of alloy composition and temperature. The aging reactions are being examined over the temperature range where 475/sup 0/C embrittlement is of concern in commercial ferritic stainless steels of similar Cr contents.

Spectroscopic investigations of small molecule interactions on metal oxide surfaces. Progress report, September 1, 1979-October 31, 1980

Description: Significant advances were made over the past year in surveying with angle integrated uv photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) the interactions of general classes of chemically important small molecules with metal oxide surfaces, and in elucidating in detail the geometric and electronic structures of the small molecule-surface complexes observed by angle resolved UPS. Progress can be divided into several areas: (1) a detailed understanding of the unique active site structures associated with the inte… more

Benchmark Script and Evaluation Criteria

Description: The Department of Energy's Office of Energy Emergency Management Information System requires time-sharing and remote-job-entry services for their state Energy Emergency Management Information System (EEMIS-S). The Office is soliciting time-sharing services through use of GSA's Teleprocessing Service Program - Multiple Award Schedule Contracts (TSP-MASC) process. The functional mandatory and desirable requirements that candidate vendors should provide are described in the Functional Requirements… more
