Production of {phi} meson in Au+Au collisions at 11.7 A GeV/c.

Description: First Measurement of {phi} meson production in Au+Au collisions has been conducted by E917 at BNL-AGS via selecting events with identified K{sup +}K{sup {minus}} pairs. Preliminary results on the invariant mass spectra of K{sup +}K{sup {minus}} pairs and the m{sub T} spectra are presented. Also, the inverse slope T, dN/dy, the ratio of {phi}/K{sup {minus}}, ratio of {phi}/K{sup +}K{sup {minus}} and their centrality dependences are extracted in a rapidity range of y = 0.9-1.4. Indications on the… more

Impurity characterization of solar wind collectors for the genesis discovery mission by resonance ionization mass spectrometry.

Description: NASA's Genesis Discovery Mission is designed to collect solar matter and return it to earth for analysis. The mission consists of launching a spacecraft that carries high purity collector materials, inserting the spacecraft into a halo orbit about the L1 sun-earth libration point, exposing the collectors to the solar wind for two years, and then returning the collectors to earth. The collectors will then be made available for analysis by various methods to determine the elemental and isotopic a… more

The dijet mass cross section at the Tevatron

Description: We present recent results on dijet production in p{anti p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. Data from both CDF and D0 experiments are shown. Dijet measurements complement prior inclusive jet measurements, which have shown a possible excess above expectations at high transverse energy. The same trend is seen in the dijet mass spectra.

Single top production and M{subscriptT Tbar}

Description: Single top production provides opportunities for studying the charged-current weak interaction of the top quark. The t{anti t} invariant mass spectrum M{sub t{anti t}} enables the search for non-standard model t{anti t} resonance states. These two topics have motivated new developments in top quark related analyses at Fermilab Tevatron. This presenta- tion reports the current single top and M{sub t{anti t}} analysis methods and the corresponding results from the collider Run I data collected by… more

Identification of micro-organisms using superconducting tunnel junctions and time-of-flight mass spectrometry

Description: We present time-of-flight measurements of biological material ejected from complete bacterial spores following laser irradiation. Ion impacts are registered on a microchannel plate and on a Superconducting Tunnel Junction (STJ) detector. We compare mass spectra obtained with the two detectors. The STJ has better sensitivity to massive ions and also measures the energy of each ion. We show evidence that spores of different bacillus species produce distinctive mass spectra and associate the obser… more

B {r_arrow} X{sub u} {ell} {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}} decay distributions to order {alpha}{sub s}

Description: An analytic result for the O({alpha}{sub s}) corrections to the triple differential B {r_arrow} X{sub u} {ell} {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}} decay rate is presented, to leading order in the heavy-quark expansion. This is relevant for computing partially integrated decay distributions with arbitrary cuts on kinematic variables. Several double and single differential distributions are derived, most of which generalize known results. In particular, an analytic result for the O({alpha}{sub s}) corrections … more

ANALYSIS OF SULFONATES IN AQUEOUS SAMPLES BY ION-PAIR LC/ESI-MS/MS WITH IN-SOURCE CID FOR ADDUCT PEAK ELIMINATION

Description: Determination of low-molecular-weight organic sulfonates (e.g. taurine and cysteic acid) in aqueous solutions is important in many applications of biological, environmental and pharmaceutical sciences. These compounds are difficult to be determined by commonly used reversed-phase liquid chromatographic separation combined with UV-Visible detection because of their high solubility and the lack chromophoric moieties. Here the authors report a method combining ion-pair liquid chromatography and el… more
