COMP: a BASIC language nonlinear least-squares curve fitting program

Description: COMP is an interactive nonlinear least squares routine written in BASIC language and used to obtain estimates of parameters in nonlinear functions and to approximate their associated statistical errors. The program uses the linearizing (or Taylor Series) expansion of partial derivatives outlined in Draper and Smith, (1966, pp. 267 to 270). Therefore, partial derivatives must be supplied (as well as the function) by the user for any new models not currently contained in the programs. When a line… more

NOSPLOT: a computer program for plotting SCORS output on a Tektronix terminal. [For CDC 6600/7600, in FLECS]

Description: NOSPLOT will read the SC-4020 plot tapes output by the SCORS plotting package and plot selected frames on a Tektronix terminal under the CDC 6600's NOS 1 operating system. This feature enables SCORS users on the CDC 6600/7600 to examine their plots immediately rather than waiting until the next day.

TRANSF code user manual

Description: The TRANSF code is a semi-interactive FORTRAN IV program which is designed to calculate the model parameters of a (structural) system by performing a least square parameter fit to measured transfer function data. The code is available at LLNL on both the 7600 and the Cray machines. The transfer function data to be fit is read into the code via a disk file. The primary mode of output is FR80 graphics, although, it is also possible to have results written to either the TTY or to a disk file.

A portable generic elementary function package in Ada and an accurate test suite

Description: A comprehensive set of elementary functions has been implemented portably in Ada. The high accuracy of the implementation has been confirmed by rigorous analysis. Moreover, we present new test methods that are efficient and offer a high resolution of 0.005 unit in the last place. These test methods have been implemented portably here and confirm the accuracy of our implemented functions. Reports on the accuracy of other function libraries obtained by our test programs are also presented. 26 ref… more

COMP: a basic non-linear last squares curve fitting package. [Interactive program for PDP-11/34 or 11/70]

Description: To find a mathematical model which describes (fits) data from a process which is fundamentally nonlinear, one usually uses nonlinear least-squares techniques on maxicomputers. These usually run in batch mode with the user supplying a model and initial ''guesstimates'' of its parameters. However, fitting the model to the data can be considered an art because computer algorithms either converge to true solutions, or converge to erroneous solutions, or fail to converge, depending on the quality of… more

FPP: A Fortran preprocessor

Description: FPP is a preprocessor which aids in porting Fortran source code across differing platforms. It provides conditional compilation features to enable or disable sections of code, and can modify file names in INCLUDE statements to a syntax suitable for a target platform. FPP is written Fortran 77, and runs on VM/CMS, VAX/VMS, UNIX, and PC/DOS SYSTEMS.

Numerical solution of Helmholtz's equation by the capacitance matrix method. [In FORTRAN for IBM 360/75 computer]

Description: The computer solution of the Helmholtz equation is discussed. Problems can be treated on bounded regions which do not allow for separation of variables. The topics treated in the report are as follows: certain results from classical potential theory, the imbedding of discrete Poisson problems, a capacitance matrix method for the Dirichlet case, a capacitance matrix method for the Neumann case, the Fourier--Toeplitz method and the fast generation of the capacitance matrix, the conjugate gradient… more

GRESS Version 2. 0 user's manual

Description: GRESS uses a precompiler to interpret FORTRAN statements and determine the mathematical operations embodied in them. As each arithmetic assignment statement in a program is interpreted, information necessary to allow the calculation of derivatives is generated. The result of the precompilation step is a new FORTRAN program that can produce derivatives for any REAL (i.e., single or double precision) variable calculated by the model. Consequently, GRESS enhances FORTRAN programs or subprograms by… more
