Making space for visual literacy in literacy teacher preparation: Preservice teachers coding to design digital books

Description: Article exploring preservice teachers’ coding in the design of a visually-enhanced digital book to reduce the lag between highly visual texts in elementary classrooms and a lack of emphasis on visual literacy in teacher preparation. Findings call for a shift to acknowledge and incorporate visual literacy theories and practices into teacher preparation programs to prepare preservice teachers for digitally literate classrooms.

Classroom observations of a cross-age peer tutoring mathematics program in elementary and middle schools

Description: Article describes how a growing body of research has shown the positive effects of peer tutoring on students’ academic achievement, self-concept, attitude, social, and behavioral outcomes. Teacher-Principal Ethnoracial Matching, Geography, and Novice Teacher Career Outcomes

Description: Article describes how, nationally, many school districts are facing a teacher workforce sustainability crisis, and job retention for novice teachers of color is a key area of focus for educational leaders and policymakers. In this study, the authors draw on nine years of administrative data from Texas K-12 public schools to better understand how teacher-principal ethnoracial matching is associated with patterns of teacher retention and system-exit.
