Experimental investigation of deposition by boron-containing fuels in turbojet combustor

Description: Report presenting an investigation conducted with trimethyl borate azeotrope and pentaborane fuels in a turbojet combustor. The primary purposes of the study were to determine the effect of boron oxide deposits on the turbine-nozzle area, combustor pressure loss, temperature distribution, and combustion efficiency. Three distinct boron deposit patterns were noted in the investigation.

Heat Transfer in Regions of Separated and Reattached Flows

Description: Memorandum presenting the results of some investigations of separation on heat transfer and a method of reducing separation and shows the heat transfer in regions of separation and reattachment for a few specific shapes. The results show that heat transfer in a separated region is strongly affected by the extent of separation, the location of the reattachment point, and the location of transition along the separated boundary.

Free-Flight Skin Temperature and Pressure Measurements on a Slightly Blunted 25 Deg Cone-Cylinder-Flare Configuration to a Mach Number of 9.89

Description: "Skin temperatures and surface pressures have been measured on a slightly blunted cone-cylinder-flare configuration to a maximum Mach number of 9.89 with a rocket-propelled model. The cone had a total angle of 25 deg and the flare had a 10 deg half-angle. Temperature data were obtained at eight cone locations, four cylinder locations, and seven flare locations; pressures were measured at one cone location, one cylinder location, and three flare locations" (p. 1).

Effect of Hinge-Line Position on the Oscillating Hinge Moments and Flutter Characteristics of a Flap-Type Control at Transonic Speeds

Description: Free oscillation test to determine hinge moment of trailing-edge, flap control surface with various hinge-line positions at transonic speed. Results show that oscillating amplitude has a large effect on the control aerodynamic damping derivative and that the damping is unstable in the test Mach number range above about 0.90 for the hinge positions tested.

MOLTEN SALTS FOR CIVILIAN POWER

Description: Molten salts provide the basis of a new family of liquid fuel power reactors. The range of solubility of uranium and thorium compounds makes the system flexible, and allows the consideration of a variety of reactors. Suitable salt mixtures have meltirg points in the 85O to 95O deg F range and will probably prove to be sufficiently compatible with known alloys and to provide lorg-lived components, if the temperature is kept below 13OO deg F. Thus the salt systems naturally tend to operate in a t… more
