Wu Chi

Description: Recording of Adolfo Nunez's Wu Chi. This work is based on impressions derived from the own sonority of the flute. The main point is to modify it by electronic devices and differing sound effects. Basically all the sound processing techniques used come from the transposition and delay. With the transposition it is possible to get thicker melodic lines and parallel chords and by the delay also thicker melodic lines, imitations and other special effects.

Description: Recording of Adolfo Núñez's X-rays from beyond. This work is dedicated to the memory of French author, Jules Verne, and his novels. The composer used the discovery and invention of x-rays as inspiration for this piece as well as media about science fiction from the 1950's and 1960's, in which many movies were made from Jules Verne novels.

XI pour ensemble et électronique

Description: Recording of Unsuk Chin's XI pour ensemble et électronique. This work consists of five parts that follow one another without interruption but hold their own distinct features. The sound material is a combination of synthesized sounds and samples from real instrumentation. The composer used a unique spatial tuning program that allows free progression between the sixteen tape tracks and the sixteen outputs, regardless of the actual position of the loudspeakers.

Yakiimo

Description: Recording of Neil Rolnick's Yakiimo. For shakuhachi and computer. Yakiimo means hot sweet potatoes. While the composer living in Tokyo in 1995-96, during the winter months, they'd hear the street vendor beneath our window, singing his song to sell his delicious wares. Yamaha PS 380

Description: Recording of Phil Archer's Yamaha PS 380. This work is a recording of an improvisation performed solely on a Yamaha Portasound PSS-380 keyboard. The keyboard is played inverted, with the keys resting on the performer's lap and the underside casing removed to expose the circuit-board inside. A length of insulated wire, stripped at both ends, is used to create temporary short-circuits. This method creates some degree of unpredictability in the performer's playing.

Description: "Yan", Rikskonserter's Command for Kroumata Set dedicated to Jan Ling, professor of musicology, is a twin composition of "Kren"; the two pieces can be given continuously as one single composition or separately. The early percussion attacks allude to "Kren", but "Yan" is closer to an improvisation and takes the form of an elongated and gradual transformation, a distinct form of Kren's one-piece construction.
