CAREER: Shape Memory Polymers as Biomaterial

Description: Data management plan for the grant, "CAREER: Shape Memory Polymers as Biomaterial." This CAREER projectaimsto elucidate the underlying mechanism of the plasticization-induced shape memory effect of thiol-enebased polymers. The model application for this material will be a heat shrink tubing that can shrink at bodily conditions (37° C and simulated body fluids) and can be used to seal colonic anastomosis. The specific three aims are to (1) Systematically investigate the effect of crosslink-densi… more

High-Temperature Nano-Indentation Creep of Reduced Activity High Entropy Alloys Based on 4-5-6 Elemental Palette

Description: In this article the time-dependent plastic deformation behavior of two refractory high entropy alloys was investigated, namely HfTaTiVZr and TaTiVWZr. These alloys are based on reduced activity metals from the 4-5-6 elemental palette that would allow easy post-service recycling after use in nuclear reactors. The creep behavior was investigated using nano-indentation over the temperature range of 298 K to 573 K under static and dynamic loads up to 5 N.

High-Throughput Investigation of Multiscale Deformation Mechanism in Additively Manufactured Ni Superalloy

Description: Article discusses how, in this paper, Inconel 718 (IN718) superalloy was processed by laser powder-bed fusion additive manufacturing (L-PBFAM), followed by heat treatment. Evidence of extensive deformation of twin networks and dislocation cells was revealed by transmission electron microscopy of the deformed region under the nanoindentation tip.

A Low-Power Wireless System for Predicting Early Signs of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Incorporating an Optimized CNN Model Implemented on NVIDIA Jetson

Description: Article discusses the low survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest and its long-term risks that patients may experience. Authors propose a more effective method of recording and reporting sudden cardiac arrest symptoms so preventative measures may be instated earlier on to increase survival rate.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties in a gas tungsten arc welded Fe42Mn28Co10Cr15Si5 metastable high entropy alloy

Description: Article asserts that weldability studies on high entropy alloys are still relatively scarce, delaying the deployment of these materials into real-life applications, thus, there is an urgent need for in-depth studies of the weldability of these novel advanced engineering alloys. In the current work, an as-cast Fe42Mn28Co10Cr15Si5 metastable high entropy alloy was welded for the first time using gas tungsten arc welding.

A modified random network model for P2O5–Na2O–Al2O3–SiO2 glass studied by molecular dynamics simulations

Description: This article investigates the short- and medium-range structural features of sodium aluminosilicate glasses with various P₂O₅ (0–7 mol%) content and Al/Na ratios ranging from 0.667 to 2.000 by using molecular dynamics simulations. Based on the simulated structural information, a modified random network model for P₂O₅-bearing sodium aluminosilicate glass has been proposed, which could be useful to optimize the mobility of sodium ions and design novel functional glass compositions.

Molten Salt Corrosion Behavior of Dual-Phase High Entropy Alloy for Concentrating Solar Power Systems

Description: Article describes how dual-phase high entropy alloys have recently attracted widespread attention as advanced structural materials due to their unique microstructure, excellent mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance. The molten salt corrosion behavior of AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high-entropy alloy was evaluated in molten NaCl-KCl-MgCl2 salt at 450° C and 650° C in comparison to conventional duplex stainless steel 2205.
