Coacting Group Effects of Learning and Performance across Anxiety Levels

Description: The problem with which this study is concerned is that of determining the effects of coacting groups and test anxiety on the learning and performing abilities of children. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of small coacting groups and test anxiety on specific "performance" and "learning" tasks. This study also provides a direct test of Zajonc's theory.

The Effect of Meaningfulness, Position, and Overlearning on Selective Stimulus Encoding in Paired-Associate Learning

Description: The present experiment was an attempt to study to joint effects of stimulus component meaningfulness, positional cues, and overlearning upon cue selection in recall and, additionally, to test the stimulus component independence hypothesis advanced by Wichawut and Martin (1970).

Beliefs of Internal Versus External Control and Their Relationship to Stage of Moral Judgment

Description: This investigation sought to explore the relationship of Julian Rotter's concept of internal versus external control (I-E) to stages of moral judgment. The I-E dimension is defined as the attribution by the individual of responsibility for behavioral outcomes to either oneself or to outside entities. The internal oriented person believes that the events in which he is involved lie within his control. Conversely, the external oriented person believes that the events that happen to him are contro… more

The Modified Human Need Survey of Human Needs

Description: This study was designed to test the hypothesis that desire is inversely proportional to satisfaction in the motivational category of a given person. The present study represents an attempt to devise an objectively scored test which will objectively and empirically determine the level of motivation of a given subject.

The Relationship of Anxiety to Critical Thinking

Description: Anxiety increase drive level and will at first lead to an increased level of performance and then, as drive level continues to rise, to a decrease in performance. There seems to be an optimal level condition for best performance. On either side of this point, performance is relatively impaired. However, nothing has been done to explore directly its relationship to critical thinking ability. The purpose of this study was to investigate that relationship.

Parental Roles and Behavior in Children

Description: This investigation was concerned with the goals parents set for their children, the child-rearing methods parents use to instill their goals in the child, and the behavioral and personality characteristics of the child. To measure these dimensions, participation was solicited from parents who had children enrolled in the North Texas State University Laboratory School.

The Relationship between Incongruency, Dogmatism, and Social Desirability in College Students

Description: The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a relationship between the concepts of incongruency, dogmatism, and social desirability. It was assumed that high scores of social desirability would be related to low incongruity scores while high dogmatism scores would be related to high incongruity scores. The relationship between social desirability scores and dogmatism scores was also investigated.

The Effects of Degree of Structure of Paradigm and Reinforcement on Awareness and Verbal Operant Conditioning of Hospitalized Children

Description: The present experiment is designed to test certain hypotheses made concerning the nature of conditioning in a verbal operant paradigm, and the relationship of such conditioning with awareness of contingencies.

Relationships of Selected Demographic Factors to Attitudes toward Trade Unionism among Texas Registered Nurses

Description: The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of certain demographic factors upon attitude formation. The attitudes of Texas registered nurses toward trade unionism and their own right to strike were measured in terms of the effects of these selected factors.

The Effects of Musical Stimuli on the Gross Motor Activity of Profound Mental Retardates

Description: It was the purpose of this present study to investigate the effects of two types of music, tonic and sedative, on the gross motor activity of profound mental retardates. The primary objective was to determine if therapeutic benefits resulting from the application of music could be extended to profound retardates as has already been demonstrated with other levels of retardation.

The Interrelationships among Anxiety, Intelligence, and Academic Achievement in College Students

Description: It was the purpose of this study to investigate the nature of the relationships among anxiety, achievement, and intelligence. It was deduced that anxiety and intelligence work together mainly at the level of average intelligence. At this level, the addition of drive in the form of anxiety increases performance level, while a lack of drive or anxiety decreases that level. The influence of anxiety on academic achievement is insignificant at other levels due to the overriding effects of intelligen… more

The Columbia Mental Maturity Scale and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children : a Comparative Study Utilizing Institutionalized Mentally Retarded Males

Description: The purpose of the present study is to compare the 1959 revision of the Columbia Mental Maturity Scale (CMMS) with the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) for use as a psychometric instrument for determining the mental ability of mentally retarded male children.

The Relationship between Performance on the Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test and Perceptual Ability and Motor Skill in a Non-Clinical Group

Description: The purposes of the present study are to try to establish whether perception and motor skill are determinant factors of performance on the Bender-Gestalt Test and to investigate the degree of relationship and importance of each factor on the B-G-T.

The Effects of Concrete, Symbolic, and Verbal Reinforcement of the Discrimination Learning of Moderately and Severely Retarded Boys

Description: The present study is an attempt to determine which of several different types of reinforcers is most effective in discrimination learning using institutionalized mentally retarded boys of different intellectual levels as subjects. If one type of reinforcement works more effectively in conditioning one level of institutionalized mentally retarded subject, then that type of reinforcement could be used to greater advantage in controlling behavior than some other, less effective kind of reinforcer.

The Effects of Music and Operant Conditioning on Gross Motor Activity of Profound Mental Retardates

Description: It has not yet been demonstrated that music can be used therapeutically with profoundly retarded children. One way these children might be helped to respond to music, and therapeutically benefit from it, would be to use operant conditioning in an effort to enhance gross motor activity and then progressively shape responses until more complex behavior patterns are formed. Once these children can respond motorically in the presence of musical stimuli, continuation of responding may be possible by… more

Success-Striving and Failure-Avoidant Aspiration Patterns of Institutionalized Mental Retardates

Description: The design of this experiment was developed to investigate the presence of success-striving and failure-avoidant motivational patterns in the level of aspiration behavior of retarded subjects. The primary objective of this study is to show that success-strivers are present in mentally retarded groups, even if in the minority.

A Study of the Perceptual Factors which are Involved in Performance on the Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test

Description: The purpose of the present study is to try to establish if perception is a determinate factor of performance on the Bender Gestalt Test. In a study which is attempting to determine the effects of perceptual factors as compared to motor factors on the Bender Gestalt Test, it would seem necessary to separate the two factors.
