BLOWER SYSTEM DYNAMICS

Description: An analysis is presented of the dynamics of a turboblower acting together with its connecting circuit. This is to be distinguished from the aero- thermodynamics involved in the design of the blower itself. The effect on system stability of blower and circuit characteristics is discussed. (auth)

THE EXAMINATION AND EVALUATION OF IRRADIATED THORIUM-11 w/o URANIUM SPECIMENS

Description: Twelve irradiated specimens of thorium -11 wt.% U were examined. The specimens were fabricated by induction melting and casting in graphite and cold swaging to about 42% reduction in area. The irradiations were conducted in the MTR in capsules equipped with thermocouples. Six specimcns were irradiated to burnups ranging from 0.5 to 0.6 total at.% at average central corc temperatures ranging from 1070 to 1250 F. Three spccimens exbibited sevcre swelling or decrepitation and three appeared to be … more

Final report: Development Test No. 105-609-A: Slug rupture detection experiments at 105-C

Description: This report details the evaluation of the prototype Gamma Monitor system which demonstrated more sensitivity for rupture detection than the C Beta Monitor in agreement with earlier tests at H pile. In one instance a rupture was indicated several hours earlier by the experimental gamma installation.

Pile level objectives

Description: At the 100{endash}300 Areas Steering Committee meeting of March 7, following a general discussion of pile level increases, the chairman pointed out the necessity for programming tentative level objectives as far in advance as possible so that the P and Service Divisions may proceed with the planning details incidental to making the necessary equipment changes. A committee consisting of Mr. Warren and Mr. McCullough was appointed to prepare an outline of pile level objectives and to determine th… more

Quarterly report, January 1951--March 1951, Chemical Research Section

Description: The current Relox flowsheet proposes precipitation of plutonium peroxide from IIBP solution concentrated by evaporation to 10 g Pu/1 and ca. 5.5 M HNO{sub 3}. Such a solution might have an Al{sup +++} concentration as high as 0.02 M with stainless steel corrosion product concentrations of the order of magnitude of those found in AT solution diluted to 10 g Pu/l. Methods for the precipitation of plutonium peroxide from this type of solution, either with or without partial neutralization of the n… more

SUMMARY OF SUMMER WORK ON THE INCORPORATION OF RADIOACTIVE ISOTOPES IN CERAMIC MASSES

Description: Concretes containlng portland cement and vermiculite as the solid material and radioactive waste as the makeup liquor were prepared to study the effect of concrete composition on retention of radioactive wastes. The tests indicated that vermiculite-concrete could successfully contain radioactive waste agalnst water leaching if the concrete were flred to 1200 deg C. The tests also indicated that vermiculite-concrete contalning attapulgite gave a lower count lixivium. It was not clear whether thi… more
