"Thatts like asking a kid to return his toys
after Christmas," says Judge Simpson, fighting
a losing battle at Tarrant County Commissioners
Court. In this case, there are THREE kids: Lone
Star, Texas Electric, and Bell Telephone.- The
toys are little pieces of paper called "checks",
representing 168 thousand dollars. Tarrant
County paid the utility companies the money for
removal of facilities at the convention centersite.
Simpson says the commissioners were fully
authorized to make the payments, but legal
advisor Fick says it was a mistake and the firms
should be asked to return the money. If the
money IS returned, Fick says the companies could
then go to court and try to prove payments are
justified.
