The first gay organization in Texas, the Circle of Friends - now
know as the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Historic Archives was founded by
Phil Johnson.
6 October 1968
Reverend Troy Perry founded the world's first gay church, the
Metropolitan Community Church. Meeting in his home, Perry led the 12
founding members in saying, "We are not afraid anymore."i
