thermal dittusion factor at the cold wall temperature, is not available; therefore, at 300"C a value was
calculated frnm the experimentally measured value of li' and the theoretical value of (i'/ ar):
(II''a theory
As reported earlier", a value of 0.0057 was found for ao at 288"K. This ao value was used in the theoreti-
cal calculation of fl' for a 4509C wire temperature.

5.55aThe measured value of H' at 3000C was used to calculate ao for the theoretical calculation.
The agreement between theory and experiment is quite satisfactory. The maximum deviation is 14% for
P' at 450'C. This deviation is in an unexpected direction since the predicted value of K' is larger than
the measured value. Parasitic circulation effects in the column would tend to cause deviations in the op-
posite direction. In any case it is doubtful that the difference is greater than the expected precision of
the experiments.
