Counseling and Testing Center
The Center provides confidential
professional psychological serv-
ices for the University community,
with students as the primary clients.
Faculty, staff, and immediate family
members are also eligible for
service on a time-limited space-
available basis. Individual coun-
seling related to personal, social,
and emotional concerns; vocational
counseling for help with selection
of a major field of study or career
plan; educational counseling; counsel-
ing for help with reading, study
skills and learning difficulties; and
marital and pre-marital counsel-
ing are offered at the Center.
Developmental group offer-
ings in such areas as interpersonal
skills, assertive training, weight
control, etc., are offered at various
times.
The Reading and Study Skills Lab
(RASSL) offers a variety of
programs in such areas as speed
reading, vocabulary building,
test-taking skills, etc.
The Center for Career Choice
(CCC) contains a wide selection of
information about occupations
and career opportunities with career
exploration groups being offered
throughout the year. It also contains
SIGI (Systematic Interactive
Guidance and Information), which is
a computerized career exploration
and information system. A Self-Help
Lab equipped with audio-visual
and reading material in various
self-development areas is availa-
ble on an individual basis.
In addition to the vocational
interest, aptitude, personality, and
other tests used in counseling,
the Center also serves as a National
Testing Center. Information and
application forms for various national
tests are available in the Cen-
ter's office.
The Center is located in Suite
321 of the University Union.International Programs
The Office of International
Programs is responsible for provid-
ing services to all student who wish
to include an international perspective
as part of their education or who
are citizens of other countries. For
students who are U.S. citizens,
the office provides information on
study abroad and provides ad-
vice and assistance for graduate
students wishing to apply for inter-
national graduate study under
the Fullbright Program or other
exchange programs.
For students who are citizens
of other countries, the office is
responsible for and provides
orientation and personal assistance
programs. The office also works
closely with the Intensive English
Language Institute to aid those
international students who need addi-
tional English instruction.
International Programs staff mem-
bers advise international students
of their rights as aliens and offer
special assistance to students
who have obligations to the U.S. as
well as their own governmental
agencies. Opportunities are available
for international students to estab-
lish a meaningful relationship
with an American family, to ob-
serve and participate in the activi-
ties of the Denton community,
and to gain new perspectives from
this exchange of ideas with Ameri-
can friends and organizations for
mutual enrichment and cultural
understanding. Policies and regula-
tions pertaining especially to
international students are contained in
the International Student Hand-
book available from the Inter-
national Student Office, Room
103, Kendall Hall.International Students
Health Insurance Policy
All international students are
required for visa purposes to have
health insurance before enrolling
at the University. Evidence of health
insurance coverage must be
presented to the International Student
Advisor prior to registration.
Coverage must be in effect contin-
uously from the time the student
initially enrolls at North Texas
State University through all enrollment
periods until final separation
