Plan of the Study
In Chapter I the problem la stated, reasons for its
selection are given, sources of data are listed, and the
plan of the study is described. In Chapter II consideration
will be given to ttu changing factors in economic, social,
and political life, and to the needed adjustment of education
to meet those changes. The scope and aims of general educa-
tion will be analyzed and defined* Th# trends in teacher
education will be considered in order to determine the place
apeach can bast serve aa a tool of social integration* In
Chapter III the role of speech in a teacher training insti-
tution will be analyzed Fhe needs of students desiring to
fit themselves into a democratic society will be considered
as means of determining how speech can best cooperate with
the aims of general education. In Chapter IV criteria for t^e
evaluation of subject matter will be listed and an analyaia
of the criteria will be given. Also, a set of criteria for
evaluation of courses will be presented and an analyaia
g.lvet. Courses of selected colleges will be used in the
analyzation* Chapter V will be a summary and recapitulation
of the preceding chapters in order to crystallize the dis-
coveries made and recommendations offered*
