Because of the underlying triplet beat and the long
dolce lexressivo slurred lines, this is one of the most
lyrical melodies written for the tuba. It lies in the
register of the instrument most comfortable for the mellow
tone desired (entirely in the bass clef). Figure 37 shows
the last four measures, which include some of the extension
of the melodic material.

The triplet pattern established earlier subsides into longer
note values while the sounds diminish and fade into silence.
