ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
As this part of my life comes to an end, there are certain people who must be
acknowledged for their part in my education. To my parents, Arline Ragland and Chuck
Ragland, for instilling in me early the importance of education and always encouraging
my love for it. To my sister, Debbie Fowler, for being the kind of big sister that I could
look up to and strive to meet the highest of academic standards. To Dr. Cathleen Norris,
for being my mentor, my advisor and a role model for all women in the field of
educational technology. To Dr. Elliot Soloway, Dr. Gerald Knezek, Dr. Jim Poirot and
Dr. Jon Young, for giving me opportunities to learn and work in the field of educational
technology. To the rest of the faculty of the Educational Computing program, Dr. Mark
Mortensen, Dr. Terry Holcomb and Dr. Demetria Ennis-Cole, for providing valuable
learning experiences. To many friends at the University of North Texas who made this
journey a true enjoyment.
None of this could have been accomplished without the support of my beloved
family. To my husband Kevin and my sons William, Mark and Luke, thank you for
lifting me to reach my dreams.11iii
