General Lloyd W. "Fig" Newton (USAF, Ret.)
Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission
2521 Clark Street, Suite 600
Arlington, VA 22202
Dear General Newton:
On behalf of my community, the City of Abilene, Texas and the men and women who
serve at Dyess Air Force Base, I would like to thank you for all you have done
regarding the Base Realignment and Closure process.
We all know that serving in any capacity with the Commission is not an easy task.
Many have told us that the decisions you had to make are some of the hardest you
have faced in your careers. The recommendations you made regarding not only
Dyess Air Force Base but many other military installations are hopefully in the best
interest of national defense. Only time will tell what the outcome will be, as we try to
implement these recommendations in the future.
My community honestly feels that although the decision was difficult, we understand
the direction you took and the reasons why Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota
was not closed.
We thank you again for your service and we wish you well as you wrap up the
process.4A22
Sincerely yours,
William J. Ehrie, CEcD
