MEMORANDUM
TO: VICKI ROSENBERG AND JULIE ABEL
FROM: KRIS WESTERSON
SUBJECT: REVISED FY98 BUDGET
DATE: 09/03/97
CC: NANCY BERRYN K DAVIS, AND BILL MCCARTER
OCTOBER - DECEMBER 1997 BUDGET
As per the telephone conversation with Nancy Berry on August 18, 1997, we are
submitting a revised FY98 budget which includes October -December 1997. This
budget reflects current salaries and benefits. You will note that the budget is not
exactly twenty-five percent of the initially proposed FY98 budget of $45,000. It is
different for the following reasons: a) Nancy Berry's time was increased to 33.3% from
16.7% for the remainder of the program. b) To hire the student worker for an exact
twenty-five percent would not have given us the support we need. Rather we have
calculated the number of weeks from when the budget begins (October 1) until the
week before finals (Dec 12). This figure is slightly more than twenty-five percent. c)
Long distance charges will be greater than originally budgeted, as survey respondents
will be queried about follow-up information to their responses. This information is
necessary to close the project down and it will be used to update the web site that will
be incorporated into the NTIEVA home page. All of these reasons are specifically
noted in the budget narrative as well as highlighted here.
There have been changes in personnel in the University's Grants Accounting office.
In the past, a letter of intent was an adequate document to encumber funds when the
University had not received the check. Now the Grants Accounting office requires all
signatures on the award letter and an original copy returned to them before funds can
be encumbered or spent. Because of this change, time is of the essence. In order for
salaries and the other expenditures to be made that this budget will allow, we must
have a signed copy before any of these expenditures can be made.
Nancy can be reached at her office in the art building (940-369-7235) or at home
(214-522-0029) to answer any questions about this budget. I will be gone from
September 4-12.
