WITH RECEPTIONSFive receptions welcoming Dr. Herman L. Totten
as dean were held during the fall, attended by
alumni and friends in the library community:
November 3, Dallas Public Library, hosted by
Director Laurie Evans; November 10, at the home
of alumna Sandra Sharps, Prosper; November 11,
Fort Worth Public Library, hosted by Director
Gleniece Robinson; December 3, Houston; and
December 9, Denton. Attendance was 75 or more

ing on the Texas Library Association President's
Task Force on Library Professionalism and has
held many other important positions in that
association.
Before coming to SLIS, Dr. Hastings was a
consultant in the Bureau of Library
Development for the Florida Department of
State, Division of Library and Information
Services. She received the Ph.D. from Florida
State University and holds the MLS from the
University of South Florida, and the BA from
the University of Arizona.
Dean Herman Totten, speaking for all
of the SLIS family, says, "We will miss Dr.
Hastings, but wish her every success in her
