Studies on Carotenoid Biosynthesis and Carotenoproteins of Corynebacterium Poinsettiae ATCC 9682

Description: Thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography were used to compare pigments of the wild type streptomycin resistant strain of C. poinsettiae with those of mutants derived from it. Possible biosynthetic pathways in carotenoid biosynthesis of the wild type were postulated on the basis of observed blocks in pigment synthesis.

Studies on the Structure and Function of Glucosephosphate Isomerases: Chemical Modifications, Chemical Cleavages and Structural Analyses

Description: Human glucosephosphate isomerase was subjected to a series of chemical modifications aimed at identifying residues essential for catalytic activity. Specific lysyl, arginyl, tryptophanyl and histidyl residues were found to react stoichiometrically with pyridoxal-5'-phosphate-NaBH4, 2,3-butadione, N-bromosuccinimide and N-bromoacetylethanolamine phosphate, respectively.

A study of muscular development and muscular strength in the highly trained female bodybuilder and the non-strength trained female

Description: The extent of muscular strength and muscular size in 20 female bodybuilders and 20 non-strength trained females was studied. Body composition and segment volumes and related anthropometric measurements data were obtained along with chest press and knee extension One Repetition Maximum (IRM) and 25 Repitition Maximum (25RM) values. No group differences were present in age, height, weight and segment volumes. The bodybuilders had a lower percent body fat, greater lean body weight (LBW) and larger… more

Toxicological Assessment Studies of the in Vitro and in Vivo Effects of Methyl 2-Chloro-2-Propenoate [Methyl (α)-Chloroacrylate]

Description: the toxic effects resulting from acrylic monomer exposure can pose as occupational risk factors for those involved in the manufacture, distribution, and use of the monomer and as potential risk factors for those accidentally exposed. This study is a toxicological assessment of the in vivo (intact animal) and in vitro (isolated human cell culture) responses to acute methyl (α)-chloroacrylate (MCA) exposure.

Ultrastructural Effects of Chemical Modification on Olfactory Receptors

Description: The ultrastructural effects of chemical modification on olfactory receptors were investigated with scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and fluorescent microscopy. Mason and Morton (1984) hypothesized that a two-step chemical treatment would covalently modify receptor proteins. Their two-step protocol was modified in an attempt to label olfactory receptor proteins and the ultra structural effects of the original two-step protocol were examined.
