A Two-Dimensional, Finite-Difference Model of the High Plains Aquifer in Southern South Dakota

Description: Purpose: The objectives of this study were (1) to collect, synthesize, and interpret geologic and hydrologic data on the aquifer in the southern South Dakota area; (2) to evaluate, by digital-computer-model simulation, values assigned to the aquifer parameters; and (3) to evaluate the sensitivity of the calibrated digital-computer-model to changes in magnitude of the selected hydrologic parameters. Results of this study are, therefore, applicable to solving potential water-resource management p… more

Use of Rainfall-Simulator Data in Precipitation-Runoff Modeling Studies

Description: Purpose and scope: The primary purpose of the study is to determine if data on infiltration and runoff obtained from the U.S. Geological Survey rainfall simulator, are useful in defining parameters used in the PRMS, which is used to predict runoff from larger watersheds. Incidental to this purpose are determination of the spatial variability of the parameters measured over the simulation plots and over the watershed, and sensitivity of these parameters in predicting runoff.

A User's Guide for the REBUS-3 Fuel Cycle Analysis Capability

Description: REBUS-3 is a system of programs designed for the fuel-cycle analysis of fast reactors. This new capability is an extension and refinement of the REBUS-3 code system and complies with the standard code practices and interface dataset specifications of the Committee on Computer Code Coordination (CCCC). The new code is hence divorced from the earlier ARC System. In addition, the coding has been designed to enhance code exportability. >Major new capabilities not available in the REBUS-2 code syste… more

The Utility Subroutine Package Used by Applied Physics Division Export Codes

Description: This report describes the current state of the utility subroutine package used with codes being developed by the staff of the Applied Physics Division. The package provides a variety of useful functions for BCD input processing, dynamic core-storage allocation and management, binary I/O and data manipulation. The routines were written to conform to coding standards which facilitate the exchange of programs between different computers.

Waste Heat Recovery Fluids for Heavy-Duty Transportation Bottoming Cycle Systems : A Summary Report

Description: Working fluids used in Rankine bottoming cycle systems for heat recovery from long-haul trucks, marine vessels, and railroad locomotives are examined. Rankine bottoming cycle systems improve fuel economy by converting the exhaust heat from the prime mover into useful power. The report assesses fluid property requirements on the basis of previous experience with bottoming cycle systems. Also, the exhaust gas characteristics for the transportation modes of interest are summarized and compared. Ca… more

Water-Level Changes in the High Plains Regional Aquifer, Northwestern Oklahoma, Predevelopment to 1980

Description: From general description: During 1978, the U.S. Geological Survey began a 5-year study of the High Plains regional aquifer system to provide hydrologic information for evaluation of the effects of long-term development of the aquifer and to develop computer models for prediction of aquifer response to alternative changes in ground-water management (Weeks, 1978). This report is one of a series presenting hydrologic information on the High plains aquifer in Oklahoma.
