Past Cbairsan ' Report-Tauber
Dr. Tauber's report to the Division appeared in the Spring, 1973
issue of Chemical Literature (p. 12). He attended the MARM, noted
that more groups are becoming concerned with professional activities
and relations and observed that ways to better coordinate and intergrate
the activities of these groups is needed. A new employment category
for "Chemical Information Specialist" is being sought (see article
elsewhere in this newsletter) and the issue of two full national meetings
of A.C.S. is being discussed.
Nominating Committee ReportThe
committee had no report, but Rush noted that its composition
is
Dr. Keatha Krueger, Chairman
Mary Jane Ruhl
Donald F. Walker, Jr. (Subsequently replaced by
Patricia M. McDonnell and Ann McCann.)
The Committee will shortly mail cards soliciting nominations of
persons for the office of Chairman-elect, Secretary and Assistant
Secretary. [The slate of candidates presented to the membership
appears elsewhere in this newsletter. I
Program Committee-Petrarca
For the Chicago Meeting (Fall, 1973), two symposia are planned,
on Evaluations and Comparative Studies of Information Sources and
Tools, and on Impact of Current Trends in Science on Chemical
Literature. A third symposium on Understanding Chemistry and
Chemists is planned, joint with Division of Chemical Education, Inc.,
CouncilCommittees on Chemical Education and Professional Relations
and ad hoc Council Committee on Public Relations. Together
with the Open Forum (devoted to D.C.L.'s 25th Anniversary) and
General Papers, this constitutes the Division's technical program in
Chicago.
A dinner, instead of the usual luncheon, is being planned in conjunction
with D.C.L.'s 25th anniversary. No speaker is planned.
For the Los Angeles meeting, symposia on Pattern Recognition in
Chemistry, and on Evaluation and Validation of Experimental Data
are being considered along with several others.
The division will be participating in the Northeast Regional and in
the MARM. The question of interference between Regional and National
Meetings was discussed.

Bulletin Committee-Revesz
The Spring 1973 Chemical Literature consisted of 16 pages, with
5 paid and I gratis (Information Science Abstracts) advertisements.
Total expenses for the issue were $253.
The membership list maintained by Rush will be sent to Gaby on
tape.
Some discussion of the purpose and direction of the newsletter
lead to the conclusion that its main purposes are to provide a record
of Division activities, to deliver abstracts of papers to D.C.L. Members
and to make available the membership roster.
July 16, 1973, set for deadline for receipt of copy for Fall, 1973
issue of CL.
