Interview conducted by J. Michael Ferguson in Denton, Texas, December 20, 2018. Charles Leroy "Lee" Smith was born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1932. After about 9 years, his family moved to Florida where he went to school. He attended University of Alabama, and later joined the Air Force. He served in various locations and assignments, including in Vietnam.
