Two-piece black evening ensemble. There is a full-length ballgown made of black net with black velvet spaghetti straps and straight neckline at front and shallow V at back. It has an accompanying black velvet jacket.

Notes

Ensemble components: A) Jacket of black velvet. Short jacket which flares below waist. Mandarin collar; single breasted; five black buttons with faceted centers. Narrow violet satin binding around edge of collar, opening, hem, and sleeves. Fully lined in black fabric. Built-in shoulder pads.
Designer's label inside jacket at side seam: "Givenchy"; "Made In / France"
Underneath designer's label is handwritten couture tag: "65J2h" (or "46?59")

B) Dress of black net. Full-length ballgown with black velvet spaghetti straps and straight neckline at front and shallow V at back. Dress is formed of black net with gradually wider-apart spaced bands of 1/2" wide black velvet placed horizontally around dress from neckline to hem. Below each velvet band is a gathered band of 1/2" wide purple silk satin ribbon forming layers of tiny ruffles. At back of dress at base of bodice is huge black velvet bow forming a faux bustle, from which descends a large A-shaped panel of black velvet, forming a slight train or overskirt. Center back zipper closure; bow held by two hidden snaps that cover part of zipper. Inner grosgrain ribbon waistband with hook-and-eye closures.
