When a composer begins the composition of a concerto he is faced with a series of specific problems, e.g., the degree of prominence to be given the soloist in relation to the orchestra, the technique of the solo instrument, the traditional first movement sonata form, and the balance between solo and orchestra in regard to tone color and sound mass. By determining the elements of style typical of this particular work, the investigator aims to set forth in a general way to how the composer treated each of the problems stated above. The concerto for Two Pianos was selected for study because of its modernity and because of the writer's active interest in works for this medium.
A Proposed Plan to Teach College Students How to Tune Pianos2015-08-15T22:32:30-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc699514/

It is the belief of many tuners that the best education for the young tuner is to do apprentice work in a piano factory where he must learn all the construction of the piano from the frame work of the case to the final setting of the tuning pins. It appears that most tuners are men now in the late forties to late fifties and were either factory-trained or apprentice-trained by an experienced tuner. The situation has changed and the apprenticeship method of training professional men such as lawyers and physicians has long since been discarded as a method of education. It is now the generally accepted plan to go to a college or university where such specialized training is given or offered under the direction and tutelage of specialists, and where students learn other essential subjects, the knowledge of which is necessary to the success of any educated man or woman.
A Critical Evaluation of Two-Piano Music Available in American Publication2015-08-15T22:32:30-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc699524/

Th study of two-piano music was prompted by an active interest in that field and a recognized need for a knowledge of its literature on the part of the writer, who, for the past five years, has devoted most of her time to two-piano work. After careful investigation it becomes apparent that no other study similar to this has yet been made, and it is hoped that it may be helpful to others with interests in common. Much remains to be done and further study would prove profitable. More information might be gained from interviews with prominent duo-pianists, as well as from examination of foreign catalogues and of recital programs given in Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, and similar music centers.
Some Effects of the War Upon the Mathematics Curriculum and the Motivating Forces at Work as Reflected in the Dallas City Schools2015-08-15T22:32:30-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc699532/

"To discuss the effect all this war activity has had upon the Dallas Schools and to voice a protest against those who seek to discredit mathematics and at the same time to contribute a readable thesis upon the subject is largely the purpose of this study." --leaf 2
A Stylistic Analysis of the Twenty-Four Piano Preludes by Dmitri Shostakovich2015-08-15T22:32:30-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc699539/

The study of the twenty-four preludes of Shostakovitch [sic] has a three-fold significance. First, it deals with a body of music literature representing important aspects of twentieth-century music. Secondly, it is an original study since no detailed analysis of these preludes has been made. Very little has been written about this collection of short pieces, and no material is available along the line of a technical, scientific analysis. Thirdly, our subject deals with a collection of compositions written by one of the foremost living composers of today, not only of Russia, but of the entire musical world -- a man who is in the public eye at present, and in whose works the Soviet ideology is reflected.
A History of the Cooke County Library, Gainesville, Texas2015-08-15T22:32:30-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc699582/

"...a brief though fairly detailed, history of the Cooke County Library and it is hoped that this material will be of interest to friends of the library and that it will serve, not only as a history of its establishment and maintenance, but that it will also be an inspiration for future achievements...The facts herein were taken from newspapers, professional journals, notes kept by the late Lillian Gunter, the records of the Cooke County Library, and by word of mouth from citizens of Gainesville, Texas who helped in the establishment of the library."--leaf 1.
Comparative First Year College Music Theory2015-08-15T22:32:30-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc699626/

The problem of this study is to set forth some principles of teaching beginning music theory in Texas colleges; to survey and evaluate critically a sampling of standard theory textbooks basing the evaluation on the principles outlined; and to recommend a methodology for teaching beginning college theory.
Some Basic Techniques of Successful Management in the Small Office2015-08-15T22:32:30-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc699647/

The problem undertaken is a study of certain basic techniques of office management as they apply to the efficient supervision of a small office. How this lack of social cooperation affects the child's behavior in the daily activities in which he engages at school and suggestions in literature for eliminating social maladjustments; and 3. How the elimination of social maladjustments will help the child to become a happier, better adjusted participant in all of the daily activities in which he engages.
Polk and the Mexican War: a Study in Motives and War Policies2015-06-24T09:39:17-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc663748/

This paper discusses James K. Its primary purpose is to make a survey of the policies and programs of a cross-section of institutions in the nation and to evaluate the programs in light of needs and purposes of veterans as shown by certain surveys....in conclusion the following evaluation is made of the results of this study: 1. The men and women returning from the armed forces to civilian life will have many adjustments to make. To facilitate these adjustments, additional education in many instances will be required. 2. The federal government has made it possible for a much larger number of veterans to return to school than could resume their education otherwise. 3. Not only will the students be more numerous than before, they will be more heterogeneous, thus presenting more complex problems for the schools. The changes being made to accomodate the veterans are obviously changes which do not fundamentally alter the characteristics of higher education. They are changes in the mechanics of education designed to assist veterans in making proper adjustments to academic and civilian life as quickly and as easily as possible."-- leaves 2,96.
An Historical Study of the Carol "In Dulci Jubilo"2015-06-24T09:39:17-05:00https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc663006/
<img alt="An Historical Study of the Carol "In Dulci Jubilo"" title="An Historical Study of the Carol "In Dulci Jubilo"" src="https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc663006/small/"/>

A study of the carol form immediately leads into the field of the hymn; each is a form of praise or worship.
