CAREER: Reinventing Network-on-Chips of GPU-Accelerated Systems

Description: Research seeking to reinvent on-chip networks for GPU-accelerated systems to remove a communication bottleneck. A major outcome of the project is a set of techniques that enable the development of effective and efficient network-on-chip architectures. Graphics processing units (GPUs) have rapidly evolved to become high-performance accelerators for data-parallel computing. To fully take advantage of the computing power of GPUs, on-chip networks need to provide timely data movement to satisfy the requests of data by the processing cores. Currently, there exists a big gap between the fast-growing processing power of the GPU processing cores and the slow-increasing on-chip network bandwidth. Because of this, GPU-accelerated systems are interconnect-dominated and the on-chip network becomes their performance bottleneck.

Utilizing TikTok for Library Peer-to-Peer Outreach

[Letter from Judge John Marshall to William Waybourn, in response]

Description: A handwritten letter written in response to William Waybourn, who had previously written to Judge Marshall to express gratitude for Marshall's May 1988 ruling in favor of the Dallas Gay Alliance against Parkland Hospital. Marshall states that he was moved by Waybourn's letter and sees Waybourn's response as proof that a judge's decisions "really do have an impact on our times."

Organization of knowledge and information in digital archives of language materials

Description: This article reports the first empirical investigation of various dimensions of organization and representation of recorded knowledge and information in language archives. The study used a combination of semi-structured interviews and content analysis. Results demonstrate that, while some of the phenomena related to organization of information in language archives are specific to these types of archives, others are more typical and have been addressed by libraries in past research and practice.

The Perils of Complexity: A multi-stage study to determine necessary images for digitized scrapbook representation

Description: Presentation on a multi-stage study to assess national trends and user preferences for scrapbook representation undertaken by librarians at the University of North Texas. The stages of this study included a review of national trends in scrapbook digitization, as seen in the Digital Public Library of America; a paper-prototyping-inspired, in-person user study; and an online survey of user preferences. The results of this research have enabled the implementation of clear guidelines at the University of North Texas for scrapbook digitization that accounts for the user experience rather than strictly relying on personal opinion or local librarian consensus. It was presented at the Visual Resource Association Annual Conference held on March 22-26, 2021.

Carrier photodynamics in 2D perovskites with solution-processed silver and graphene contacts for bendable optoelectronics

Description: Article reporting on the inkjet printed, direct contact study of solution-processed, 2D perovskite-based photodetectors (PDs) formed on flexible PI substrates. Silver (Ag) and graphene (Gr) inks have been engineered to serve as efficient electrical contacts for solution-processed two-dimensional (2D) organo-halide (CH3(CH2)3NH3)2(CH3NH3)n−1PbnI3n+1 (n = 4) layered perovskites, where all inkjet-printed heterostructure PDs were fabricated on polyimide (PI) substrates.
