Comparison of Thickness, Grade, and Depth of Radioactive Layers as Determined by Gamma-Ray Logging and by Core Sampling

Description: Abstract: "Thickness, grade, and depth data were obtained by analyzing gamma-ray logs and core samples from 56 diamond drill holes penetrating uranium deposits in the Colorado Plateau. The data from the two methods were compared to determine variations found in gamma-ray log interpretation and chemical and radiometric analyses of the drill core. Correlations within each parameter varied among the drilling areas analyzed. Gamma-ray interpretations of grade compared to chemical analyses were with… more

Geologic Summary of the San Juan Basin, New Mexico, with Reference to Disposal of Liquid Radioactive Waste

Description: From introduction: Approximately fifty radioactive deposits and nearly fifty properties not abnormally radioactive were examined during a geologic reconnaissance for radioactive minerals in Idaho, Washington, and western Montana during the period July 1952 -- June 1955. The most important uranium deposits are in or near granitic to quartz monzonitic intrusions of probable Cretaceous age in central and northern Idaho, westernmost Montana, and northeastern Washington. The purpose of these reports… more

Maximum Accelerators Caused by Underground Nuclear Explosions in the Oak Spring Formation in Area 12 of the Nevada Test Site at Distances of 5 to 300 Kilometers: a Preliminary Summary

Description: From introduction: The results presented in this preliminary report are principally concerned with the ground motion caused by seven underground nuclear explosions (table 1) in the bedded tuff of the Oak Spring formation in Area 12. Ground motions were recorded at stations as close as 5 kilometers and as far as 300 kilometers from the explosions (fig 1 and table 2). The results for the Bianca and especially the Evans explosion are meager because the first was accompanied by a Test Site-wide moz… more
