Full-scale wind-tunnel tests of the longitudinal stability and control characteristics of the XV-1 convertiplane in the autorotating flight range

Description: Force and moments were measured for the XV-1 convertiplane at 75 to 150 knots. Rotor on and off and propeller powered and off configurations were investigated. The characteristics of the V-tab horizontal tail and its downwash field were studied. Lift interference between fixed wing and rotor and possible means of drag reduction were considered.

Description: Report presenting an investigation of the ejection release characteristics of the MB-1 rocket from the missile bay of a model of the Convair F-106A airplane with its fin tips retracted at a simulated altitude of 18,670 feet. Successful ejections of the rocket were made at supersonic speeds by applying a combination of ejection velocity and nose-down pitching moment at release.

Performance of Basic XJ79-GE-1 Turbojet Engine and Its Components

Description: Memorandum presenting an investigation to determine the performance of the XJ79-GE-1 turbojet engine and its components, while operating as integral parts of the engine, conducted in an altitude test chamber. Shielding Requirements for the Army Package Power Reactor

Description: The design, selection, and calculation of the Army Package Power Reactor shielding are described. The APPR-1, a prototype of a package reactor for remote locations, has a primary shield of Fe and water. This shield has been adopted to permit fast erection and to provide low transported weight. Design Study of a Nuclear Power Plant for 100-Kw Electric and 400-Kw Heat Capacity

Description: A conceptional design study was made of a lowpower ''package'' reactor plant for the production of 100 kw of electrical power and 400 kw of heat at remote Arctic installations. The power plant steam generator is proposed to be an unmanned, heterogeneous, boilingtype reactor capable of continuous operation for extended periods. The design is based on data derived from experiments with boiling-type reactors conducted by Argorne at the Reactor Testing Station, Arco, Idaho.
