Aerodynamic Characteristics of a 0.04956-Scale Model of the Convair F-102A Airplane at Mach Numbers of 1.41, 1.61, and 2.01

Description: "Tests have been made in the Langley 4- by 4-foot supersonic pressure tunnel at Mach numbers of 1.41, 1.61, and 2.01 of various arrangements of a 0.04956-scale model of the Convair F-102A airplane with faired inlets. Tests made of the model equipped with a plain wing, a wing with 6.4 percent conical camber, and a wing with 15 percent conical camber. Body modifications including an extended nose, a modified canopy, and extended afterbody fillets were evaluated" (p. 1).

Applicability of Gas Centrifuge to Isotope Separation for Elements Heavier Than Titanium

Description: The applicability of the gas centrifuge to the separation of the isotopes of the elements from Ti through U was examined. The suitable elsments were determined, and their effects on required centrifuge characteristics were surveyed. The performance of cascades of various aires with different gages was explored, and the cost of a pilot plant program to develop basic separation data was estimated. (F.S.)

Aqueous Corrosion of 2S Aluminum at Elevated Temperatures

Description: 2S aluminum corrodes uniformly in nearly pure water at rates which increase with temperature. Although normal corrosion is not extraordinarily rapid up to well over 250 degrees C, The usefulness of the material might be limited since above 200̊C intergranular attack occurs, with resultant more rapid penetration and deterioration of the metal.

DETECTION AND TELEMETERING OF IONIZING RADIATION BY FREQUENCY VARIATION

Description: Three methods are discussed for detecting ionizing radiation and transitting the intelligence. All three methods make use of the reactamce variation of a frequency determining network, to vary the frequency of an R.F. transitter as a function of ionizing radiation entering an ion chamber or counter. The first method is based on the capacitance znd subsequent frequency variation of am electrometer incorporated in an ion chamber. The variation is achieved by a moving came electrometer, where the … more
