Monitor of distributed data systems (MODDS). Part 1. Digest of functional specifications

Description: Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLL) investigated a new approach for improving the use of geographically distributed computer services used by the U. S. Department of Transportation/Transportation Systems Center (DOT/TSC). The interactive use of these distributed services (a major portion of which are data bases) consumes increasing amounts of the DOT user-analyst's time. The new approach increases accountability, selection capability, usability, and control of distributed services usage. L… more

Innovative Clean Coal Technology: Demonstration of innovative applications of technology for cost reductions to the CT-121 FGD process

Description: The objective of this project is to demonstrate on a commercial scale several innovative applications of cost-reducing technology to the Chiyoda Thoroughbred-121 (CT-121) process. CT-121 is a second generation flue gas desulfurization (FGD) process which is considered by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Southern Company Services (SCS) to be one of the most reliable and lowest cost FGD options for high-sulfur coal-fired utility boiler applications. Demonstrations of the innovativ… more

Annual technical progress report inducer pump program government fiscal year 1976 and 1976T. [LMFBR]

Description: The Inducer Pump Program was initiated to demonstrate the applicability and advantages of an inducer pump to the LMFBR. The inducer is a pump blading which is specifically tailored to provide excellent suction performance. Operating suction specific speeds two to three times those for the inlet of a centrifugal impeller can be achieved with a properly and conservatively designed inducer. When coupled to a centrifugal impeller, the inducer offers excellent suction performance which can be effect… more

Conceptual design of the blanket and power conversion system for a mirror hybrid fusion-fission reactor. Addendum 1. Alternate concepts. 12-month progress report addendum, July 1, 1975--June 30, 1976

Description: During the course of the Mirror Hybrid Fusion-Fission Reactor study several alternate concepts were considered for various reactor components. Several of the alternate concepts do appear to exhibit features with potential advantage for use in the mirror hybrid reactor. These are described and should possibly be investigated further in the future.

Spray nozzle pattern test for the DWPF HEME task technical plan. [Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF), High-Efficiency Mist Eliminators (HEME)]

Description: The DWPF melter off-gas systems have two High-Efficiency Mist Eliminators (HEME) upstream of the High-Efficiency Particulates Air filters (HEPA) to remove fine droplets and particulates from the off-gas. The HEMEs consist of three filter candles. Each filter candle consists of a 0.5 inch layer of 30 micron diameter glass fiber on the upstream face followed by a 2.5 inch layer of 8-micron-diameter glass fiber packed at 11 lbs per cubic foot. The coarse 30-micron filter serves as a prefilter and … more

Statistical Methods and Tools for Uxo Characterization (SERDP Final Technical Report)

Description: The Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP) issued a statement of need for FY01 titled Statistical Sampling for Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Site Characterization that solicited proposals to develop statistically valid sampling protocols for cost-effective, practical, and reliable investigation of sites contaminated with UXO; protocols that could be validated through subsequent field demonstrations. The SERDP goal was the development of a sampling strategy for which a frac… more

Progress Report on the Laboratory Testing of the Bulk Vitrification Cast Refractory

Description: The Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State has been used extensively to produce nuclear materials for the U. S. strategic defense arsenal by the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE). A large inventory of radioactive and mixed waste has accumulated in 177 single- and double-shell tanks. Liquid waste recovered from the tanks will be pre-treated to separate the low-activity fraction from the high-level and transuranic wastes. Currently, the DOE Office of River Protection (ORP) is evaluating sev… more

Test Summary Report Vitrification Demonstration of an Optimized Hanford C-106/AY-102 Waste-Glass Formulation

Description: In order to further the goal of optimizing Hanford?s HLW borosilicate flowsheet, a glass formulation effort was launched to develop an advanced high-capacity waste form exhibiting acceptable leach and crystal formation characteristics. A simulated C-106/AY-102 waste envelop inclusive of LAW pretreatment products was chosen as the subject of these nonradioactive optimization efforts. To evaluate this optimized borosilicate waste formulation under continuous dynamic vitrification conditions, a re… more
