Evidentiality in Akha - a preliminary discussion

Description: In this conference paper handout the author discusses eight different types of evidentials used to describe actions, factual knowledge, knowledge from witnessing, reaction to witnessing and hearing, action, etc. Example sentences used in this paper come from various stories and conversations collected by the author. Gordon Soundscape

Description: Recording of Pete Stollery's Gordon Soundscape. This work is an attempt to map the sonic diversity of the former Gordon district in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Mobile Variations

Description: Recording of Krzysztof Wołek's Mobile Variations. This work explores space as a compositional element. Gastrointestinal disorder

Description: Recording of Eldad Tsabary's Gastrointestinal disorder. The composer describes this piece as a stylistic departure from the works of Canadian Acoustic-Ecology and Soundscape Composition pioneers. The sounds of this work were recorded in the busy streets of Montréal's Plateau at the end of a very busy Friday night-out. Arrivederci

Description: Recording of John Young's Arrivederci. This composition was inspired by the composer's trip to Italy. While standing in Piazza Saffi, the composer heard church bells around the city and had a strong sense of experiencing the sounds as something resonant of the place and its history. A poem by E. E. Cummings is used in the work as it evoked a sense of eternity and serenity.

Maresia

Description: Recording of Daniel Luís Barreiro's Maresia. The title of this piece means "smell of the sea or sea mist" in Portuguese and this composition was inspired by the sea in two different ways. First, by the pleasant experience of being immersed and surrounded by water. Second, by the movement of the waves and the energy that create ephemeral shapes. This composition was created for 8-channel tape.
