Flexible cubic spline interpolation

Description: This report describes a simple, efficient, and flexible program for cubic spline interpolation in one dimension, suitable for inclusion in the ANL Subroutine Library and in an interactive timesharing system. Most of the cubic spline programs already available either restrict the boundary conditions to knowledge of the first derivative at both end points, or require the second derivatives to vanish at these points. The program described here removes these restrictions and enables the user to adopt boundary conditions appropriate for his own problem. The advantage is demonstrated for the extreme case of interpolating the function x log (1/x), which has singularities in all its derivatives at x = 0.

Metallika Glypta III

Description: "Metallika Glypta III", is the third release of a series of three works under the same title, was written in February 1972. Their processing and the final realization were made in the studio of the author. The sculpture exhibition of Loukoupoulos (1972) was the starting point of "Metallika Glypta". The idea of using sounds taken exclusively from metal sculptures was a particularly challenging stimulus. The musical activity starts at the first moment when the sound material was collected. The ideas on the making of sounds were preconceived, they came one after the other. Each successful essay highlights the emotion of the first creative success. The same emotion was found in later treatments and their inclusion in large units. The form of the work -fluent and evolving without stop- serves the integration of musical ideas in a composition that has not denied the original material. The feeling of metal is thus always present.

Isostatic pressing development. Quarterly report, October--December, 1971

Description: About 150 process-development pressings were made in prototype tooling. Problems arose which include stress cracking caused by difficult stripping of the part from the mandrel. Pressings made of PBX 9404 presented none of these problems. The primary effort is being directed toward developing a process for LX-09 and LX-04 pressings which at present are the problem areas.
