Servo Stabilized RF Vernier Time-of-Flight Analyzer

Description: The analyzer can be operated either internally or externally. The 10 ma germanium discriminator is quiescently biased to 8.5 ma in its low-voltage state. An input signal current of 3.5 ma or more triggers it to its high voltage state. This triggers the oscillator. The oscillator signal is buffered and mixed in the bridge modulator with the reference radiofrequency signal from the cyclotron. The low-frequency beat note from the bridge modulator is squared up and passed to the beat zero univibrat… more

Alkali Metal Physical Properties Program at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft-CANEL

Description: The favorable combination of physical properties such as heat capacity, viscosity, electrical resistivity, thermal conductivity and high temperature liquid range make alkali metals, in principle, among the best heat transfer fluids available for use in nuclear reactor and other esoteric powerplant systems. Unfortunately, many of these properties are not known with sufficient certainty in the high temperature region to permit optimization of design criteria for developing maximum efficiency coo… more

Refractory Metals as Alkali Liquid Metal Containment Materials

Description: Abstract. Refractory metals and their alloys are good container materials for alkali metal coolants. Thermodynamics of interaction with contaminants have been correlated with experimental test and show the need for high purity materials. Structural metal solubility data to 1600F can be used to correlate and predict engineering systems.

Hazards Report for SM-1 Core II With the SM-1 Core II With the Silver-Cadmium-Indium Control Rod Absorber Section

Description: Abstract: In the March-April 1962 shutdown of SM-1 Core II, the SM-28 element will be re-inserted in SM-1 Core II and an SM-1 Core I element will be removed. An SM-1 Core II europium absorber will be replaced by a Ag-Cd-In absorber, and surveillance specimens will be inserted above the core support structure. Analysis of these changes concludes that re-insertion of the SM-2B stationary element and insertion of surveillance specimens do not affect hazards potential previously defined for SM-1.… more

Calculation of the Vibrational Frequencies of Ethylene

Description: In this report, approximations which have been shown to simplify the calculation of the normal modes of paraffin hydrocarbons are tested for olefinic hydrocarbons by application to C2H4, CH2CD, C2D4. The results indicate that the method should suffice for the low-frequency models below about 0.1 ev energy, and may be adequate for all vibrations as far as he needs of neutron scattering are concerned,

Artificial cooling of the Columbia River by dam regulation, 1961

Description: This report details benefits of an increase in the flow of water from the lower depths of Grand Coulee Reservoir which used to lower river temperatures at HAPO. A net average daily reduction of over 1.7{degree}C resulted at HAPO. The peak reduction was over 4.0{degree}C. The net production gain from temperature change was 13,350 MWD. The cost of control was: Grand Coulee Charges (Estimated) $37,000, and other 3,500, for a total of $40,500.
