Evaluation of the Blake Sodium Resistivity Meter

Description: Report issued by the APDA over an evaluation of the toroid sodium resistivity meter. Studies were conducted on carbon and oxygen contamination. As stated in the introduction, "the meter was also subjected to extensive testing in which variations in temperature, flow rate, and supply voltage were made in order to determine signal stability and effective range" (p. 5). This report includes tables, illustrations, and photographs.

Artificial cooling of the Columbia River by dam regulation, 1961

Description: This report details benefits of an increase in the flow of water from the lower depths of Grand Coulee Reservoir which used to lower river temperatures at HAPO. A net average daily reduction of over 1.7{degree}C resulted at HAPO. The peak reduction was over 4.0{degree}C. The net production gain from temperature change was 13,350 MWD. The cost of control was: Grand Coulee Charges (Estimated) $37,000, and other 3,500, for a total of $40,500.

Refractory Metals as Alkali Liquid Metal Containment Materials

Description: Abstract. Refractory metals and their alloys are good container materials for alkali metal coolants. Thermodynamics of interaction with contaminants have been correlated with experimental test and show the need for high purity materials. Structural metal solubility data to 1600F can be used to correlate and predict engineering systems.

Criteria of the Post-Operative Cells, E-MAD Facility

Description: The purpose of this report is to present information on the design requirements of the post-operative cells at the E-MAD facility. It contains our reference operation plan, requirements for the post-operative cells, the cell service area, the warm machine shop and the manipulator repair area. This report is based on the best information presently available. The reference operation plan will be changed, as required, to be compatible with the E-MAD final design and the final design of the reactor. more

Scram recovery data preceding ``C`` overbore fuel failures

Description: Considerable interest has been generated concerning the recent series of overbore fuel failures at C Reactor. It therefore is appropriate to document the operating conditions which existed prior to the failures. This report presents a chronological description of events leading up to the failures, and graphs and tables of various pertinent parameters.

Reactor process flow technical data

Description: A computer program is being developed for the solution of general system flow problems. As a complement to this program, a summary of the process system has been prepared. This assembles information from a number of different reports, drawings and technical notebooks into one place for easy use and reference. It is expected that the information contained in this report will be of use in safety and design studies of these process systems. This report presents current values of the reactor flow c… more

Results of Ten Tube Operational Fueling on February 9, 1962

Description: Ten columns of ripe uranium were discharged and recharged from KE Reactor during operation (first large scale refueling test with Operational Fueling Facility gear). For the last year, many tests were performed in preparation for the ten tube discharge. Objectives of the production test have been met. The system was proved to be feasible; no reactor control problems were encountered by refueling during operation.

NPR hazards review: (Phase 1, Production only appendixes). Volume 2

Description: The NPR Hazards Review is being issued in a series of volumes. Volume 1, which has already been published, was of the nature of an expanded summary. It included the results of hazards analyses with some explanatory material to put the results in context. Volume 2 presents results of reviews made after the preparation of Volume 1. It also contains supporting material and details not included in Volume 1. Volumes 1 and 2 together provide a nearly complete ``Design Hazards Review of the NPR.`` How… more

Control rod studies (Tory II-C)

Description: This memorandum outlines the area of interest in connection with the SSBN launch application, on modification of the Tory II-C control rod system; and suggest a plan of development of information. Because of the very limited space for overall missile length, little room is available for control rod motion upstream from the core. Shortening the rod stroke, and the total length occupied by control rod mechanism., becomes very desirable. Changes in the actuator and linkage mechanism will clearly h… more
