TRANSIENT RADIATION EFFECTS IN CAPACITORS AND DIELECTRIC MATERIALS

Description: Measurements of dielectric leakage, capacitance, electric strength, andd charge scattering phenomena were performed at the Kukla and Godiva III critical assemblies for tantalum and aluminum electrolytic, wax- and oilimpregnated paper, mylar, mica, and ceramic capacitors, and for mylar and Vitamin B-impregnated paper. Leakage data indicate that gamma induced conductivity in capacitor dielectric varies directly with gamma DELTA , where gamma is the gamma radiation rate and DELTA is 0.9 for mylar,… more

Magnetic Properties of Insulators : Quarterly Report No. 2 Covering the Period from May 15, 1961 to August 15, 1961

Description: Abstract: "The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of color centers in additively colored KCl crystals is measured to observe the effects of optical bleaching at room temperature. Earlier measurements on the F-center are confirmed and the susceptibility is measured at 78 and 300 deg K over five decades of power, including the very low power region. The width and the saturation properties of the individual multiplets are studied in detail and the technique of making EPR measurements on inhomog… more

Literature Survey on World Isotope and Radiation Technology : First Interim Report Covering the Period from June 15, 1961 to August 14, 1961

Description: Abstract: "This is the first interim report of a literature survey investigating the uses and technology of radioscopes in the countries of the world, with particular emphasis necessarily placed on those more highly industrialized nations. Part I includes a general summary of the quantity and quality of radioisotope work being performed in these countries. Among the outstanding radioisotope applications with respect to quantity is the work of Japan in chemical research, that of USSR in metals r… more

Equations Representing Reactor System with Emphasis on KIB Digital Program

Description: "This report is written as a supplement to LAMS 2539. It is hoped that one will be able to read LAMS 2539, with emphasis on the fourth part (Memorandum N-4-79OU by 0. Farmer), with this memorandum to bridge the gaps and understand more about the model used and what the KIB Program can be used for. The system is defined by subsystems or subprograms: Thrust System, Heat Exchanger, Neutron Dynamics, Rod Actuator Dynamics, and Thermocouple Dynamics. The original Kiwi-B Flow System is included in th… more

Electron Paramagnetic Resonance in Biology

Description: A review of the theories of electron paramagnetic resonance in biology is presented, including a discussion of the nature of the physical observation, followed by examples of materials of biological interest. Iq discussing these examples, information is presented in terms of the nature of the starting material under observation rather than the nature of the magnetic entities observed. The examples proceed from the simpler molecules of biological interest (metabolites, vitamins, cofactors) into … more

Solution Critical Experiments for the High Flux Isotope Reactor: Preliminary Calculations

Description: A condensed version of this report was presented on December 12, 1960 at the San Francisco meeting of the American Nuclear Society under the title Solution Critical Experiments for High Flux Isotope Reactor Studies, Part B Calculations. Nuclear calculations were made for critical experiments of a flux trap type reactor that neutron wise resembled the proposed High Flux Isotope Reactor. The purpose was to evaluate the adequacy of certain calculational models for use in HFIR studies. In general, … more
