Las Vegas Area (ARMS-II)

Description: From Abstract: "An Aerial Radiological Measuring Survey (ARMS) of the Las Vegas area was made for the Civil Effects Test Operations, Division of Biology and Medicine, U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, by Edgerton, Germeshausen & Grier, Inc., between May 21 and June 23, 1961. The survey was part of a nationwide program to measure present environmental levels of gamma radiation. Approximately 6000 traverse miles were flown, at an attitude of 500 ft above the ground, in a 100-mile square centered near Las Vegas. The EG&G ARMS-II instrumentation was used in the survey."

An Experimental Study of Phase Variations in Line-of-Sight Microwave Transmissions

Description: From Introduction: "The purpose of this report is to present an analysis of time variations in: (1) the phase (relative to a stable phase reference) if a 9414 Mc/s signal transmitted over this path, referred to hereafter as single-path phase data; (2) the phase observed at one receiving antenna relative to that observed at an adjacent antenna, referred to as phase difference data; (3) atmospheric refractivity as recorded by a microwave refractometer located at the Haleakala terminal; (4) the wind velocity at both ends of the path, and (5) surface atmospheric refractivity measured at 5 stations located on or near the path."

The Chemical Thermodynamic Properties of Hydrocarbons and Related Substances: The Use of n-Heptane as a Reference Substance for Low-Temperature Calorimetry

Description: From Introduction and Summary: "This bulletin presents the results obtained n-heptane by the petroleum thermodynamics laboratory of the Bartlesville, Okla., facility. Detailed results of five investigations are given; selected values if the low-temperature thermal properties are tabulated; and comparisons with results that were obtained in other laboratories are made. The findings of this extensive study will serve to characterize the low-temperature thermal data for over 100 compounds that will be presented in a later bulletin of this series."
