Equilibrium Adsorption of Krypton and Xenon on Activated Carbon and Linde Molecular Sieves

Description: Equilibrium krypton and xenon adsorption isotherms were obtained for four varieties of charcoal and for Linde Molecular Sieves Types 4A and 5A, generally at 0, 25, and 60°c. Such data are of interest in connection with design and evaluation of adsorbers for radioactive noble gas fission products. The isotherms were fitted, by linear regression analysis, to straight-line forms of the Freundlich and Langmuir equations. A Solution of the Distributional Error Problem in Cytophotometry

Re-evaluation of the Activated Charcoal Fission Gas Adsorber for the Leak Detection System of the GC-ORR Loop No. 1

Description: The nitrogen leak detection system charcoal trap for the GC-ORR Loop No. 1 is re-evaluated under modified operating conditions and using recent laboratory data concerning the adsorption of krypton and xenon from very slowly moving gas streams. This experiment is being conducted in support of the Experimental Gas-Cooled Reactor (EGCR) being built at Oak Ridge and is designed to study the operating characteristics of UO2 fuel specimens clad with stainless steel.

Apparent Observations Ionic Sound Waves in an Arc Plasma

Description: Oscillations have been observed in a magnetically supported cylindrical rod of plasma. This rod of plasma can be the discharge occurring in the defining aperture of a Mode II, pressure gradient arc. Similar oscillations can also occur in the column of a Mode I arc. These oscillations appear to be the mechanism that drives the Mode II blowup phenomena.

The Nuclear Spin Of Neodymium-141

Description: The spin of neodymium-141 was measured by the method of atomic beams and found to be 3/2. A lower limit placed on the hyperfine separation of the states with total angular momentum [formula] by second-order perturbation theory shows [formula]. A prerequisite for the determination of the nuclear spin from hyperfine-structure measurements is the knowledge of the electronic structure. The ground-state configuration of neodymium is known and the value is used throughout this work.
