A Transistorized Pulse Height Analyzer for Gamma Spectroscopy

Description: From abstract: "A scintillation detector has a pulse height output which is a linear function of the energy of impinging gamma radiation. A pulse height analyzer system determines the amplitude distribution of this train of pulses. The system also displays this information graphically in a form which is convenient for further analysis."

Reconnaissance for Uranium in the Cuzco-Anta Area, Department of Cuzco, Peru

Description: Introduction: The specific purpose of the work was to learn whether the selenium indicated by the presence of Astragalus g. was uniformly distributed in one or more formations, i.e., probably syngenetic, or whether it was spatially and, therefore genetically, related to alteration.

Trapping of Energetic Ions by Neutralization of a Polarized Beam

Description: Recent experiments show that a positive ion beam with a density exceeding 10/sup 8/ ions/cm/sup 3/ will neutralize its space charge by trapping electrons within the beam. This trapping of electrons converts the ion beam to a neutral plasma suitable for injection and polarization experiments in a cross magnetic field. The ion energy used is about 500 volts. The beam moves readily across the magnetic field due to polarization of positive and negative charges. To create a hot plasma, it will be ne… more

Radial Thermal and Fast Neutron Flux Distributions in the Sodium Reactor Experiment (SRE) and in the Title I Configuration of the Hallam Nuclear Facility (HNPF)

Description: The thermal neutron flux distributions for the Sodium Reactor Experiment and the Hallam Power Reacter radial shields are calculated by three different methods. The method giving the highest fluxes is used to calculate conservative values of the heat generation rates in these shields. (T.F.H.)

Effects of Fuel Burn-Up on the Dissolution Process-I

Description: Data on the effects of nuclear fuel burnup on dissolution rates and U losses of a few fuel types are summarized. Burnup to the 40% level produced very little effect on the rate of solution of stainless steel-UO/sub 2/ fuel elements in solutions of the Darex type. Beyond passivation, burnup to the 250 Mwd/T level did not produce a large effect on the rate of decladding nor on the U losses in the Sulfex process. Bunnup to the 15% or 4300 Mwd/T level produced little or no effect on the rate of dec… more

Comparison of Two Colorimetric Methods for Uranium

Description: In order to establish the feasibility of using two colorimetric met;iods for the determination of uranium interchangeably, according to the interferences encountered in a particular sampte. results were obtained by each of the methods and compared. The dibenzoyl methane method and the ethyl acetate-ammonium thiocyanate procedure were compared on the basis of values secured on the same day. on different days, on an analysis of the variance. and on an analysis of the residual error for the method… more

Preparation of Uranium-Niobium Alloys by Bomb Reduction; PREPARATION D'ALLIAGES URANIUM-NIOBIUM PAR REDUCTION EN BOMBE

Description: Uranium--niobium alloys were prepared by direct reduction with calcium of urardum tetrafluoride and niobium pentoxide. The reduction of potassium oxyfluoniobate did not give satisfactory results. Alloys containing up to 20% niobium have been successfully achieved. Ternary alloys containing chromium and vanadium have been prepared by simultaneous reduction of chromium anhydride and vanadium pentoxide. The preparation of the alloys is described and the results are discussed. (auth)
