HASL Aerial Survey System

Description: Radioactive debris from nuclear detonations may fall out over an extensive area. A rapid evaluation of the distribution of such surface contamination cam be obtained by an aircraft mounted detector. The gamma field measured in the aircraft can be related to the intensity on the ground. The HASL Top Hat'' system measures the radiation intensity, in an aircraft, at any altitude up to 1500 feet. The data are continuously compensated to the reading that would be obtained if the measurements were ta… more

Transformations in uranium-base alloys : summary report, December 14, 1955 - March 31, 1957

Description: From abstract: "Transformation kinetics of binary U -Nb and ternary U-Nb-base alloys were investigated. Additions included zirconium, chromium, titanium, silicon, nickel, nnthenium, and vanadium. Encapsulated samples were given a homogenizstion anneal at 1000 or 1100/sup o/C, water-quenched from 906/sup o/C to retain the phase, and reheated to temperatures between 360 and 600/sup o/C. The metastability of the phase was examined by metallographic, hardness, resistometric, dilatometric and x-ray-… more

Results of U.S. Geological Survey Exploration for Uranium-Vanadium Deposits in the Club Mesa Area, Uravan District, Montrose County, Colorado

Description: From introduction: This report summarizes some of the results of U. S. Geological Survey investigations in the Club Mesa area and presents a compilation of available geologic data that would be helpful in future exploration. Detailed geologic logs of U. S. Geological Survey holes drilled in the Club Mesa area on public land that is no longer withdrawn from mineral entry are on open file for public inspection in the U. S. Geological Survey office, Grand Junction, Colorado.

Radioactive Decontamination Tests on Surgeon's Gloves Contaminated With Plutonium

Description: Report discussing the effectiveness of various methods for removing plutonium from contaminated gloves. The cost of decontaminating the gloves using the most effective method was three times the cost of new gloves, and "consumer resistance" was noted among users of treated gloves.
