Brown dress

Description: Dress of rust/copper brown rayon crepe-back satin. Wide oval neckline with beige lace Peter Pan collar. Short sleeves are pin tucked and trimmed with lace matching collar. Two self fabric streamers fall from knot at center front. Strips of pin tucking at center front and sides ends in godets outlined in gold tone metal buttons. Pin tucks from neck to overskirt hem at center back. Slender underskirt attached to burnt sienna lining.

Cloche hat

Description: Cloche hat of blue-green velvet. An early example of the cloche hat, it has a narrow up-turned brim. All around the crown is floral decoration carried out in beading, appliqué, and embroidery with thin lines of gold thread sewn throughout. The edges of the brim are similarly decorated. Remains of silk lining. No labels. Measurements: 24 cm across at longest point; 22.5 cm across on narrow side; 15 cm high from base of brim to top of crown.

Straw cloche

Description: Cloche hat of burnt sienna-colored straw. The high domed crown of woven straw is decorated with flowers and leaves formed by embroidering and couching using fine brown and cream cloth rather than thread. The brown fabric flowers have beaded centers. The very narrow brim of matching straw is turned up at front, edged with brown fabric, and bound with dark golden yellow threads. Felt cloche

Description: Cloche hat of brown felt. The high, domed crown is of brown/mauve felt, pulled and gathered to create texture at top back. The brim of the same felt is narrow, curving down at sides and up at back. Around the base of the crown is a wide band of brown grosgrain ribbon, which passes through slots in the upturned back section of the brim.
