The Crystal Structure of Bis(Meta-Chlorobenzoyl) Methane

Description: Technical report. From Abstract : "The crystal structure of bis(meta-chlorobenzoyl) methane has been determined by three dimensional anisotropic least squares refinement of scintillation counter data. The molecule was found to be nearly planar with a maximum deviation from the least squares molecular plane of 0.068Å and an average deviation of 0.023Å. Fourier transform techniques to locate phenyl rings provided the key to the structure determination. The intramolecular bond distances and therma… more

The Weighting of Intensities

Description: Technical report. From report : "The method of least squares refinement is based on the prediction of the theory of errors that, if the errors of the observed structure factors follow the Gaussian distribution, the most nearly correct atomic parameters will be those which result in the minimization of the residual R = Σi [√wi(|Fo| - |Fc|)i]2."

Experimental Studies of Transient Effects in Fast Reactor Fuels

Description: An experimental program to evaluate the performance of FCR and EFCR fuel during transient operation is outlined, and the initial series of tests are described in some detail. Test results from five experiments in the TREAT reactor, using 1-in. OD SS-clad UO₂ fuel specimens, are compared with regard to fuel temperatures, mechanical integrity, and post-irradiation appearance. Incipient fuel pin failure limits for transients are identified with maximum fuel temperatures in the range of 7000 deg F.… more

A Talk on NMR Applied to Polymer Research Given at the Eastern Analytical Symposium - November 14, 1962

Description: The nature and types of internal molecular and thermal motions that polymer chains and polymer segments undergo have a great bearing on the physical behavior of polymeric solids. A relatively new tool is now available that permits us to observe and study internal thermally-induced motions directly at the atomic or molecular level rather than from macroscopic observations. this tool is nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This talk discusses (1) the nature of nuclear magnetic resonance, (… more

Acid-Base Reactions and Kinetics of the Halates in Fused Nitrates

Description: From Abstract : "The mechanism of the reactions of the halates, bromate, chlorate, and iodate, with dichromate in fused alkali nitrates has been shown to involve a fast equilibrium followed by a slow rate determining strip to give oxygen and halogen gases as final products." Experiments outlined serve as insight into the structure of fused salts or fused electrolytes.

Investigations in Automated Activation Analysis

Description: Introduction: The Texas A. and M. Activation Analysis Research Laboratory has been studying the basic technology of activation analysis and its applications since 1958, under the spondorship of the Division of Isotopes Development, U. The Scandium-Yttrium and Scandium-Zirconium System

Description: Technical report. From Abstract : "The scandium-yttrium and scandium-zirconium were studied by thermal and x-ray methods. Both systems are characterized by complete solid solubility in the low temperature hexagonal form and in the high temperature bcc form. In the Sc-Y system, there is a minimum in the solidus at 50 at. pct and 1365°C, while the solidus in the Sc-Zr system follows a nearly straight line relationship between the melting point of scandium and zirconium. There is a minimum in the … more
