Adsorption of Zirconium-Niobium on Silica Gel

Description: From abstract: "Adsorption of radioactive zirconium-niobium from uranyl nitrate solutions by silica gel was increased by increasing the temperature and time the solution contacts silica gel, and decreased by "aging" the solutions before contacting the silica gel."

Amplitude and Phase Functions for the Revised Parameters of the Cambridge Electron Accelerator

Description: "The phase and amplitude functions describing the betatron oscillations in the synchrotron are calculated using the revised parameters of the Cambridge Electron Accelerator. The results are given numerically and plotted in a graph for one machine period."

An Application of Game Theory to Special Weapons Evaluation

Description: "A methed was introduced for combining the techniques of classical Lanchester theory of combat with those of game theory toward the end of selecting optimal strategies in combat with special weapons. In the application of this method to the example in which only the defender had atomic weapons,. it was shown that the attacker always chose either to disperse his troops the maximum amount or not to disperse his troops at all. The defender always chose to employ a mixed strategy consisting of the … more

Behavior of Polyvalent Metallic Ions in 100% Acetic Acid Reactions of Rare Earth Compounds in Acetic Acid

Description: "The solution of a polymeric oxide such as a rare earth oxide in protonic solvents such as acetic acid may be regarded as a steo-wise process involving rupture of Ln-O-Ln linkages, to form "hydroxyacetates" of varying molecular size and complexity. Intermediate oxo-hydroxo-brdiges aggregates could therefore be formed by solvolysis processes. Further reaction with acetic acid could effect dehydration of such "hydroxyacetates", to yield oxo-bridged acetates, Ln2O(OAc).

The Chlorine Trifluoride-Hydrogen Fluoride System. Some Vapor Pressure and Conductance Measurements

Description: The possible existence of a stable complex between chlorine trifluoride and hydrogen fluoride made further study of this system desirable. We have therefore investigated the vapor pressures and specific conductances of solutions of hydrogen fluoride in chlorine trifluoride.

Cost of Containment Features for Boiling Water Reactors for Argonne National Laboratory

Description: An analysis of the cost of containment features for nuclear power plants utilizing boiling water reactors was made. The two plants chosen for comparison were the Experimental Boiling Water Reactor at ANL and a hypothetical large scale nuclear power plant with an electrical capacity of 180 Mw. In order that a cost analysis could be made for the plant designs general arrangement drawings were prepared for each of the alternate arrangements considered.

Criteria for Pre-Startup Environmental Monitoring Programs for Nuclear Sites

Description: A preoperational monitoring program to provide data on the types and amounts of existing radiation, to measure normal variations in the background radiation encountered on the site of a nuclear facility and the surrounding area, and to supply meteorological, geological, and hydrological data appears a necessity. It is desirable for the preoperational monitoring program and study of the meteorological features of the site to cover a considerable period of at least twelve months prior to operatio… more
