Total Cloud Activity Measurements

Description: Abstract: Gamma radiation detectors in three fixed ground stations and in a helicopter were used in an attempt to measure the total radioactivity as a function of time for the dust cloud produced by the Sulky event. Large plastic s cintillators, photomultiplier tubes, and crudely collimated lead shields were the basic components of the detectors. A constant- current, variable -voltage regulator circuit enabled the detectors to operate in very high as well as in low radiation fields. Because the… more

Equilibrium Dissociation Pressures of the Delta and Epsilon Phases in the Zirconium-Hydrogen System

Description: Abstract: Pressure-temperature isochores were obtained for zirconium-hydrogen alloys, spanning the H/Zr composition range of 1.430 to 1.910. The studies were confined to the temperature limits of 300 to 900ÂşC, and the pressure limits of 0.01 to 10.0 atm.

Final Report: The Cesium-137 Power Program

Description: From introduction: The technology of isotopic power generation, though recent, is a logical extension of the search for power from the atom. Controlled fission of uranium utilizes only a fraction of the total energy made available from this nuclear process.

Geologic Study of the Sedan Nuclear Crater

Description: From introduction: The purpose of this study was to map the geology of the (Sedan) crater shell and relate the information gained to shell configuration and cratering mechanics. Hopefully, the data presented will be of use in planning future nuclear cratering experiments.

Gas-Phase Radiolysis of Propane

Description: Abstract. the direct and inert-gas radiolysis, as well as the vacuum ultra-violet photolysis of CD3CH2CD3, CH3CD2CH3 and C3H2+C3D3 mixtures have been investigated in the presence of radical scavengers. The major conclusions are : (a) at atmospheric pressures, neutral propane decomposition contributes to the observed products although to a lesser extent than parent ion decompositions ; (b) a variation in pressure has a pronounced effect on the fragmentation of the parent ion ; (c) the hydrogen a… more

Nuclear Superheat Project. Internal Steam Separation Development of Radial Vane Steam Separators

Description: This technical report describes the development, design, operation, and performance of a full-circle, radial-vane steam separator for the boiling water section of a nuclear superheat reactor. Steam-water tests of this model have demonstrated that is has vane capacity in excess of that required for the 300-Mx(e) separate superheat reactor and for the 300-Mw mixed spectrum superheat reactor. It is proposed that the vane capacity requirement of the 600 Mw(e) separate superheat reactor may be atta… more
